Just wanted to share how I gave away flowers directly in the community last year on a couple of occasions.
This bucket of flowers is basically roadside (we live on a pretty quiet street), at the end of our property. Hopefully you can see the bungee cords being used to support the lip of the small bucket, so that I could shimmy the bucket around the tree trunk as needed, to avoid the sun. I like this method because I wasn't hurting the tree and the flowers could stay in water while also being protected by the shade of the maple leaves.
I've decided that if I give away flowers, it has to be simple and quick. In past years, I've wrapped flowers nicely with instructions of how to care for them, only to find some of them still sitting out at the end of the driveway an hour or two later.
So, from now on, I'll do this bucket around the tree thing. I just put a few dahlias together with an elastic and pop them into a bucket of water, walk away, and hope they get taken. On this occasion in the photos, it took less than an hour for all the flowers to be taken, so I feel that was a success.
And if people take the flowers and don't immediately care for them by placing them in water at home, etc., I don't worry about it. I just hope the flowers bring joy or whatever the person needs in that exact moment when they grab a bunch.
