No matter how much technology advances, you cannot replace sketching as the best method for working out the basics and solving design problems. Only once solved can you move the drawings through documentation and construction.

Been working with the Town of Comox for a couple of years now on a viewing platform that replaces the old Mack Laing house in Mack Laing Park. Here’s an image of what’s to come and the progress so far. Helical piles screwed into the earth will support the structure in an archaeological sensitive area.

I’m using this photo I took in Iceland as inspiration for a new farm house design project. Stay tuned.

Over the last couple of years I’ve been helping School District 71 upgrade the NIDES building north of Courtenay. The gym recladding is almost complete. I decided to use standard grade framing lumber as vertical wood cladding with a pre-weathered stain. That, plus super clean lines and details gives a nice fresh look.
