Got a Bylaw Notice About Long Grass?

If you received a letter from the City of Cornwall about the grass on your vacant lot, rental property, or even the empty boulevard in front of it, you’re not alone—and don't panic, you’re not in trouble.

Cornwall’s Yard Maintenance By-law requires grass and weeds to be kept under 15 cm (6 inches), including on vacant lots. If you’re over that limit, the City can cut it for you—and send you the bill.

Those costs can include:

Labour and equipment
A 25% administrative surcharge (up to $495)
Re-inspection fees (starting at $70)
All of it added to your property tax bill

The City is just doing its job to keep the community clean and safe. And we’re here to help make that easier for everyone.
