We often get asked, "How do you measure for beach stairs?"
Well, some may call it the old-fashioned way, but we grab a level, measuring tape, notebook, and pen and head to the site.
From there, we measure from top to bottom, which means yes, we climb down and back up the bank to ensure we get the accurate measurements needed for the design and fabrication process.
What many people don't realize is that we're not just measuring the overall length of the bank. We're looking at the slope, grade changes, landing locations, erosion, shoreline conditions, and the safest, most practical route to the beach. Every property is different, and no two shorelines are exactly alike.
Taking the time to gather these measurements allows us to design a staircase that fits the landscape naturally while providing safe and comfortable access to the shoreline. It's also an important step in ensuring the staircase is built to handle the environment and the conditions unique to each location.
While technology has come a long way, there's still no substitute for being on-site, taking the measurements ourselves, and seeing the project firsthand. It may involve a few trips up and down the bank, but that's what it takes to get the details right.
The planning stage might not be the most exciting part of the process, but it's one of the most important. The better the measurements, the better the finished staircase.
