Installing a game changing awning window in this housing co-op unit's kitchen!
Normally I don't do this kind of work, at least not for clients on a tighter budget, because one issue in the wall could really increase the scope of the job. The clients assured me, though, that a larger window had been there in the past, making the chances of running into issues much lower.
Similarly, I wouldn't always recommend Jeld-Wen windows, because they're not known for being great quality, but they're affordable, easily accessible, and this area is not exposed to rain, so that limits what could go wrong.
I cut out the drywall, drilled holes in the corners, so as to mark my cutting area on the outside, then I cut out part of the previously framed-in window gap, framed out the opening, installed the new window, and viola...happy clients!
The clients tell me the other contractors who bid on the job came in at about 3X more than my estimate. That always worries me, because I feel as though I may have made a mistake, but this project went according to plan, and my time and materials were pretty accurate. I can only speculate that the other contractors were assuming a worst case scenario, didn't want the work, or don't know how to do the work. Either way, I remain happy to have earned the job!
