What exactly is a Tamlin home package?

A Tamlin home package includes the components needed to bring your home to the lock-up stage.

That means much more than a set of plans and a timber frame. The package brings together the structural and exterior components for the home, including the floor system, wall system, roof system, windows, exterior doors, siding and exterior trim, along with the timber frame and other materials specified for the design.

Everything is coordinated for the individual project, then organized, packaged and shipped to the building site ready for construction.

Because every home is different, the exact materials and specifications will vary depending on the design, site, engineering requirements and selected options.

A timber frame adds a gorgeous, distinct feature to a home, one that isn't hidden behind drywall or finishes. You see it overhead in a vaulted ceiling, in the detailed joinery where posts and beams come together, and in exterior spaces like covered entrances and porches. The timbers become the true statement of the home.

This is where Ken Saito comes in. More than a carpenter, he's a true craftsman. He and his production team turn BC Douglas Fir into the timber frames at the heart of so many Tamlin homes, shaping each one with care, skill and a deep attention to detail.

Fall is beautiful here in BC, but the Laurentians are pretty hard to beat this time of year.

As the hills turn shades of red, orange and gold, it felt like the perfect time to revisit our Laurentian 2508.

Named for Quebec’s Laurentian Mountains, this 2,508 sq. ft. design combines warm, traditional detailing with an open floor plan and a strong connection to the outdoors.

From British Columbia to Newfoundland.

This waterfront home is quickly taking shape. With the walls up, timber elements in place and the roof framing underway, you can really start to see how the home is designed around its surroundings, especially those views across the water.

Today, the final truck is leaving our facility with the windows, doors and remaining materials for the next stage of the build.

Our first update from our clients on Hood Canal, Washington, and this home is already making an impression.

The blue-grey siding is going up, and we love how it works with the surrounding evergreens, water and sky. Paired with light trim and warm wood details, the exterior feels distinctive without looking out of place.

We’ll be following this one as construction continues.

One home design. Three very different settings.

As summer winds down, this Clear Lake home in Ontario has us thinking about cottage season, and maybe more importantly, planning for next year.
Set right on the water, the original version of our Clear Lake design makes the most of its location with expansive lake-facing windows, warm timber details and outdoor living spaces overlooking the shoreline.

“Measure twice, cut once.” That’s never more true than for projects like this one for a client in North Central Washington. The house has extensive timber work, both inside and out.

Before the full-size timbers are cut, our team starts with the plans and works through the layout and dimensions on paper. For more complicated details like this one, test pieces are made first so the geometry and fit can be checked before cutting the finished timbers.

From there, the joinery is cut into the full-size fir timbers and the components are dry-fit in our shop before the package is shipped to site. It’s these behind-the-scenes steps that help ensure installation goes as smoothly as possible once the timber package reaches the client.
