People walk through this building every day and have little knowledge of the lost skills that were required to build it. I enjoyed immensely taking as much time as I could studying every detail. There is no question in my mind, any construction being carried out today pales in comparison.

When it comes to design it can be very advantageous to include your craftsmen in the discussion. Case in point , This client was adamant she wanted a gatehouse right out of the cotswalds. These were the drawings we recieved. We knew right away key elements were missing. Our design input included 1. Doing the entire exterior in our custom rubble instead of just one wall. 2. Adding a chimney to both ends.
3. Eliminate the soffit overhang on both gable ends. 4. Use cedar rather then standing seam.

Front entry way done in our old Ontario rubble. We also achieved an aged look with the sq cut flagstone porch. Can’t wait to see it with the new door and cieling all finished

Like us you might find rubble stonework very appealing, more so then stone work where the material has been sawn and overly worked. We are firm believers that the right stone does not any “help “ to look good. A rubble wall laid properly speaks to our roots, connects us to a simpler time, even grounds us. It also makes for a true work of art when used on an interior wall, where it can be appreciated for years to come.
