Daisy girl loving her apples!

And fingers crossed Mr. Hades has got this girl with at least one bun in her oven - she has been his favorite since being here πŸ˜…

Release the chickens!

Our new coop/enclosure is finally ready for these mother cluckers πŸ€— This gives them a TON more space both inside and outside and allows us to turn the old coop into a breeding pen allowing us to breed more specific pairings. Currently we have separated 8 Novagen hens to breed with our cream legbar rooster - a mix I am very excited for!

We do have a few more additions still to add to this coop but it is now functional!

Hades is currently in with our older 2 ladies (Tulip & Buttercup) but apparentely Daisy is in need of some love to and has managed to draw his attention πŸ˜…

In case you couldn't tell (or didn't know), Hades is peeing on his beard to increase his musky scent for Daisy (maybe you didn't want to know πŸ˜…).

The goal is to stagger the births this year so fingers crossed we manage to do that!

Fall harvest has begun!

While I was busy with a big order this weekend, my mum was busy with some squash harvesting πŸ€—

We will be storing/canning/freezing and fresh eating all of this and the chickens will be getting some delicous snacks at well!

We still have tons of celery, herbs, more zuchinni and cucumbers, beets, carrots, kohlrabi, lettuce, cabbage, tomatillos, spinach, kale, sunflowers, and of course a ton of green tomatoes that still need to be harvested!

Introducing another new face πŸ₯° Something I never imagined we would get - Scotty has a great dislike of cats and is allergic to them - but the mouse traps are no longer cutting it. This little girl will be a 'barn cat' and hopefully keep the rodents at bay!

She is approximately 12 weeks old and we have decided to name her Chester! The kids are absolutely obsessed though we are dealing with a slight allergic reaction to her from our oldest son (who had been around plenty of cats before with no reaction πŸ˜…).

She has been the sweetest little thing so far - even to the kids craziness!

In a game of 'who's your daddy,' we are going to go with our cream legbar rooster on this one!

A benefit of the legbar is that it is an autos*xing breed, meaning that pure cream legbar chicks are male and female distinguishable from hatch. We had originally wanted legbar hens and roosters but the fertility rates on the hatching eggs we ordered was incredibly poor.

Since we don't know exactly who the mama is, the s*x determination may not be as clear but I am pretty confident this little girl is a girl!
