😂 Well… I guess 560,000 km was the magic number.

The JB water-hauling rig has officially decided its transmission has worked hard enough and entered early retirement. 😂

Honestly, after 560,000 km of hauling trailers, equipment and water around, I suppose the old Dodge has earned a little sympathy.

But JB Lakeland Exterior Wash is still up and running! 💦

The trusty Ford F-150 is stepping up to keep me moving, so regular house washes, gutter cleaning, window cleaning and other exterior work are still going ahead as usual.

The only temporary change is that I won’t be able to haul my own water for remote jobs until I get the big truck situation sorted out. Jobs with an available water supply are business as usual. 👍

Just another adventure in small-business ownership. 😂

A few more properties around the Lakeland getting some much-needed attention!

🧼 Another local business cleaned up!

Over the weekend I had the opportunity to give the front of United Woodmasters a much-needed exterior wash.

With the amount of bugs we get around the Lakeland, their building had accumulated quite a few mayflies, bug residue and cobwebs — especially around the entrance and underneath the canopy.

A good treatment, some dwell time and a thorough rinse made a huge difference and got the front of the building looking clean again.

I also want to give a shout-out to Mickey and United Woodmasters. It's always great getting the opportunity to work for another locally owned business, and I really appreciate Mickey trusting me with his building.

🌧️ With more rain in the forecast, now is a good time to think about your gutters.

We've had a lot of rain and wind this season, and I've been kept pretty busy cleaning gutters around the Lakeland.

One thing I've noticed on almost every gutter cleaning I've done lately is a surprising amount of shingle sand and granule buildup in the bottom of the gutters.

It may not look like much, but that material gets heavy — especially when it's wet. Add leaves, dirt and standing rainwater, and that's a lot of unnecessary weight being carried by your gutters and their hangers.

I've already come across gutters this season that have been damaged or pulled away, and with the amount of rain we've been getting, keeping them clear is cheap preventative maintenance compared with repairing damaged gutters or dealing with water going where it shouldn't.

Your gutters have one important job: get water away from your home.

Next time it's raining, take a quick look outside. If water is pouring over the sides, pooling in sections, or isn't coming properly through the downspouts, your gutters may be telling you it's time for a cleaning.

Lately, I’ve been thinking about what “local” really means to me.

JB Lakeland Exterior Wash is a solo owner-operated business right here in Cold Lake.

When you call or message JB, you’re talking to me. When you ask for a quote, I’m the one who comes out. And when the work gets done, I’m the one standing in your yard doing it.

I may not have a big team, multiple trucks or employees spread across different communities — and honestly, that’s okay with me.

My goal isn’t to become the biggest company in the Lakeland.

My goal is to build a business where people know who they’re dealing with. A business that is honest, reasonable and approachable, and where I can take the time to actually get to know my customers.

Being local also means more to me than simply having a community listed in my service area.

It means being part of that community.

It means helping out when I can. It means looking after our seniors and being mindful that many are living on fixed incomes. It means occasionally donating my time when someone genuinely needs a hand. And it means supporting other local businesses and recommending good local people when a customer needs something I don't provide.

I’m still building JB Lakeland Exterior Wash, one customer and one job at a time.

One thing that means a lot to me as a small local business is being able to help people in our own community.

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to wash a condo for a wonderful customer, and we got talking about how important it is for seniors to have access to quality exterior cleaning services at a fair price.

It's honestly been bothering me knowing that there are people in our communities receiving what seem like astronomical quotes for relatively simple exterior cleaning jobs. What bothers me even more is knowing that some seniors are on fixed incomes and may feel pressured into paying prices they simply can't afford.

Everyone's situation is different, and I know businesses have different costs and pricing structures. I'm not here to tell anyone what they should charge. But as a small local business, I believe we can still make a living while treating people fairly and being mindful of the communities we serve.

I'm proud to be a local Lakeland business serving Cold Lake, Bonnyville and surrounding communities. I do my best to provide honest quotes, fair pricing and quality work on every job, big or small.

From Construction Mud to Like-New Finish

This newly constructed shop was absolutely covered in dried mud and clay after heavy equipment and trucks got stuck on site, spinning their tires and throwing mud all over the siding.
It wasn't a quick rinse. The mud had dried on in layers and took the right combination of cleaning methods and patience to safely remove without damaging the new finish.

The end result? Back to looking like it was meant to.
