ITOH PEONY UPDATE
As mentioned in our previous post regarding growing Itoh peonies. I very recently became aware of a local grower/ retailer of these rare and impossibly hard to source specimens . Tim and Donna from True North Garden Centre at 59 Hutchinson Rd near Warkworth has what I consider to be the finest selection of not only itoh peonies but also dozens of rare herbaceous and tree peonies as well . Many are potted up and waiting to be rehomed while others are growing on in the fields, which I was fortunate enough to receive a Tour. In addition to peonies as well as being hybredizers of Day Lillies they also have a huge selection of Hostas , field growing garlic and many other rare perennials. We came home with a very rare peony ( even for itohs)named Orange Victory and placed an order for another named Julia Rose Peony.The Julia Rose Peony is another highly regarded Itoh Peony, unfortunately the only potted up specimen he had was a bit elusive so true to form Tim took me out to the field and had me pick out the one I wanted from the very few that he had growing .
