Health and Safety Coordinator / Trainer

VanDriel Excavating Inc. strives to be the contractor of choice through Quality, Excellence, and Teamwork in excavation and civil construction. We are currently seeking a Health and Safety Coordinator/Trainer to support our heavy civil and bridge construction projects for municipal and commercial clients.

This position offers a unique long-term opportunity for the right individual to help build and lead a Safety Training Division within the company, with the potential to grow into a leadership role or business partnership as the organization expands.

Job Description

The Health and Safety Coordinator/Trainer will support the development and implementation of health, safety, and environmental programs across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Promote occupational health, safety, and environmental practices throughout the organization
Provide employee safety training and certification programs
Assist with the development and implementation of health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures
Maintain and administer the company’s health and safety database
Assist with incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation
Coordinate and organize employee health and safety training sessions and meetings
Support compliance with legislative requirements from the Ministry of Labour and other regulatory agencies
Participate in and help drive Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings
Conduct inspections of job sites, facilities, equipment shops, and other work locations
Maintain hazardous products records and Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
Manage and organize PPE inventory and safety-related equipment and documentation
Participate in training programs and professional development as directed by management
Perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements

Minimum 3 years of experience in a health and safety role (construction experience preferred)
Diploma or Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent education/experience
Strong knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and applicable regulations
Up-to-date safety training certifications
Excellent administrative and organizational skills with the ability to maintain accurate reports and records
Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Excel
Comfortable delivering training and presentations to small and large groups
Valid driver’s license with acceptable driver’s abstract
Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced construction environment
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Reliable attendance and a positive attitude
Working Conditions

Work may require reaching, bending, lifting, and carrying materials
Regular travel to job sites and driving in various weather conditions
Outdoor work in all weather conditions
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn at most work locations
Must be able to work 40+ hours per week as required

Job Description

· Maintain and manage a daily record of repairs and services to vehicles and equipment.

· Maintain yearly service requirements for fleet

· Assist and complete daily repairs

· Ensure adequate maintenance of tools, equipment and other materials in the workshop.

· Knowledge in diagnosing electrical systems

· Diagnosing malfunctions and testing passenger vehicles and heavy equipment to determine mechanical issues

· Adjusting equipment and repairing or replacing and defective parts

· Cleaning, lubricating and preforming other preventive maintenance work

· Repairing and verifying any emission control systems

· Working with specialized machinery

· Understanding the inner workings of various machines, such as bulldozers, cranes, graders, farming equipment, heavy trucks excavators, and passenger vehicles

· Keep track of work performed with accurate records

· Clean and maintain equipment & tools

· Abide by safety policies and procedures

· Must be willing to work with a positive attitude towards your co-workers and with the company's best interest in mind

· Assist in maintaining a parts inventory

· Ensuring the cleanliness of the shop

· Preform other duties as and when assigned not limited to the above

Requirements

310T, 310S or equivalent experience desired
Heavy Equipment Experience would be an asset
Dependable work attendance
A positive attitude and willingness to work as a part of a team
Experience in the construction industry with a willingness to learn
Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment
Safety minded
Adheres to ethical work habits
Good attitude and willingness to follow directions
Be able to work 40 hours/week as a minimum

Job Description:
We are looking for a Construction Supervisor with a minimum of 2+ years of experience in a Site Supervisor role within the construction industry and at least 3+ years as a construction carpenter who has strengths in framing, forming and concrete works. The ideal candidate should have the ability to read and understand blueprints and various construction documents, including quotes and change orders. Effective communication skills are crucial for interaction with subcontractors, site inspectors, and customers.
Key Responsibilities:
• Oversee multiple projects simultaneously with hands-on involvement when necessary.
• Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
• Maintain attention to detail to meet or exceed quality standards.
• Utilize mobile devices for effective communication and documentation.
• Possess a valid driver's license and be willing to travel within our service area.
Requirements:
• Proficient in reading blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
