On the left 58 years old, the right 23. And that’s just the time that it took to grow enough to be cut to this size. Vastly different growth rates for same size of material.

Mitered corners on pitched material. No guessing, no test cuts.
The framer’s triangle and pitch are all you need. Ten slides, start to finish. This is the method I wish they taught in carpentry school; the math is unnecessarily difficult.

Send this to someone cutting miters on a pitch.
Save this so you don’t forget it.

Circ-saw summer at continues with expanded blade options. The nitrous carbide tech is now available in the 6-1/2” sizing. I really hope that you never need to make a cut like this demonstration setup. That said, during demolition it’s not always possible to remove all fasteners, and some time they are hiding. With the nitrous carbide blade you can relax and not stress about toasting a blade when cutting the fastener is the option.

This one is for the homeowner, DIYers. Too often I just see people measuring stud spacing from the corner; that only works if that’s where the layout started for the wall. Furthermore, if it’s an exterior wall the layout started a wall thickness away, if it was from that end. Outlets are a tell-tale sign of stud locations. Start there and measure centers to where you are looking for the stud. Finding your studs is now as easy and hitting that share button.

Your angles were right, your saw was set, and the blade still drifted off the line. Because your saw setting isn’t your bevel angle when cutting compounds. 21° on the saw cuts a 30° bevel when the miter is at 50°. Your square pulls the true angle straight off the wood with no complex math, watch it track the line. Just expanding on the knowledge from my last video. Drop your questions in the comment and share with your coworkers.

Fractions don't need to be difficult — this is one of my go-to head-math tricks for finding centers. Half the number, double the denominator, done.
You and your apprentice probably need a SCRATCHMax for your tape measure: https://link.byronbuilds.com/scratchmax

Your 45s meet perfect on flat but gap on a slope? It's not your saw.
Here's the carpentry trick for compound miters on a 7/12 pitch: 41° miter, 21° bevel. Same method works on any pitch — run your numbers with this method and you'll get there.
Drop your pitch in the comments, and if you were successful.

Construction sites are not your safe space. You must always be aware of your surroundings, know where the dangers are, and never put yourself in harm’s way.
Everyone survived today, but let this be a reminder… tomorrow is not guaranteed (to have a clean PottaJohn).

But only if you saw is square. If it’s not, you going to have a bad time.
