I didn't do any steps on this little Hunting Sword/Dagger Myself... my Good Friend did it all in my shop (burning his own Propane!) Under my Guidance and Advice.

My friend chose a good piece of old Hickory Axe Handle, as opposed to my traditional Choice of Antler, but I think he Chose Well. Its good Strong Grained Wood. And it will look nice once oiled.

The blade needs a final Grind, but all the stressful parts are Done. It's Heat Treated, Tempered, and Peened.

And so it Counts as the second proper Sword/Long Blade to come out of my Humble Smithy.

Finally got a break in the wind and rain... (jeeze, if not fire, it's flooding!)

So I forged another set of Coathooks! These little items start at 7 bucks each, more if you need the holes drilled. Depending on my supply of railroad spikes, of course!

I've still gotta refine the set, even them all up a little, and drill out the holes, but otherwise they're pretty established.

I would like to Publically Thank my dear Grandmama for Donating the Money to buy a Second Full Propane Tank!

Love You, Grandma.

Alright Folks. No sense being all Coy about it anymore. It's too obvious now, the Major Forging is Done!

I forged a massive Leaf Shaped Fighting Spear. And technically the biggest blade I've actually Forged to Shape Yet!! ( while I used my Forge for Straightening, annealing, and Quenching, My Sword was mostly Cut and Ground to Shape so it doesn't count (it's still an Awesome Sword!!))

My original plan was for some fancy Wings/A Forged In Crossbar, and I'd worked the Idea out a million Times in Imaginationland.... but as sometimes happens in my Self Education Process, Reality threw some Unexpected Physics at me. Flaws Happened, I had to do some Fast Thinking to salvage all the Work I already put in, and in the end I prevailed.

Now I gotta pretty it up!!

But for NOW, I think I earned some Beers. A Nice Pumpkin Ale, maybe?

Alright, after yesterday's Hitch, we're back on track! Starting to establish Bevels and a final shape!

The whole piece, incidentally, is about 16 and a half inches... the pointed section a little over ten inches and still growing a bit as I subtly adjust things.

Well. I messed up. Caused a major flaw but with a bit of quick emergency cutting and grinding, and a slight change of design, I was able to salvage it, hopefully.

Live and Learn. I got too complicated too quick and fumbled at a critical moment.

Alright. DONE for Tonight. This is as far as I've Gotten. Not Bad. Most of the major Masses of Steel have been Established. Unfortunately I got some Partying to do tomorrow so I might not be able to work further until Sunday or Monday.

Which is Fine, for the Idea I got I wanna take some time to Think and Plan. Maybe even scribble around on a piece of paper. This is gonna be Cool, Folks, Trust Me!

I cut a roughly eyeballed 45 degree Point and have been trying to forge it longer and thinner. It's hard Work! I might need to pay my brother a Beer or Two to Assist me in the next steps. 8 lb Hammers were never designed to be used one handed.

Is it becoming Obvious what I'm making, yet? There's plenty of adjusting left to do, but this is the basic completed PreForm for this project. I still gotta figure out how I'm gonna give it Wings. Yup... 'Wings'.

OOOOH WHEE that was a LOT of metal to move! I'm rather proud though... at one point I was using an 8 lb Sledge onehanded!

From here I need to take a pause. At this stage I'm not above 'Cheating' a little with the Angle Grinder but either way I need to think about how to proceed.

The rains have come and it's safe to Forge Again!

This is today's project. I could be Boring and tell you all what it is, but I'd rather just post progress pics and see how long it takes to become Obvious.

If you're wondering why things have been Quiet here at the Forge... well... just look at the sky!

Not a good time to play with Fire and Hot Metal.

I will be resuming operations as soon as the weather gets safer.

An experiment in Snakes.

It's hard to get the head exactly Right, but otherwise, Snakes are kinda fun. This one would work as a pendant, but there's no reason I couldn't turn one into say, a Bracelet or something, if I had an idea if the intended wearer's Wrist/arm size.
