THE SCARIEST PART ABOUT BAD CARPENTRY?

A lot of it looks GOOD at first.

Fresh paint
Nice trim
And Clean finishes

Meanwhile behind the walls:
- Improper flashing
- Water intrusion
- Air leakage
- Poor structural details
- Moisture problems waiting to happen

Many homeowners do not discover these problems until years later when repairs become extremely expensive.

At Altitude Carpentry, we believe real craftsmanship is not just about appearance.

It is about how the home performs years from now.

Want to see the moment an average builder reveals they are not an expert? Ask them a complex technical question about a blueprint cross-section.

To most people, a blueprint is just a map: “There’s the kitchen, there’s the door.” But to a seasoned, high-performance carpenter, a blueprint is a complex, multi-layered code. It details how the ventilation (HVAC) will weave around the structural beams, where the continuous air barrier MUST be connected to the foundation, and precisely how the electrical lines must be sequenced to avoid puncturing that critical barrier.
Many “knockoff” or less experienced builders treat the blueprints like a loose set of instructions, often cutting corners or “figuring it out as we go.”

This invariably leads to massive issues later: walls that can't be finished, plumbing that has to be rerouted, or by worst of all leaks in your building envelope that destroy efficiency and cause rot.

At Altitude, we have blueprint literacy rooted in building science. We spend days analyzing the plans BEFORE we order a single board, predicting sequencing challenges and ensuring every system works perfectly together. True expertise is knowing how to build it perfectly on paper first.

Planning is our first phase. If you want a builder who plans and executes at a high-performance level, let's talk. 250-351-5932

MODERN HOMES ARE NOT SIMPLE ANYMORE

If someone is building like it’s 1995, you’re going to have problems.

Today’s homes require a very different level of knowledge:
Air sealing and airtightness
Moisture movement and control
Thermal bridging
Ventilation systems
Energy efficiency standards
Material compatibility
Long term durability planning

This is building science, not just carpentry.

Without proper training, many builders simply do not understand how these systems interact.

And when systems fail, homeowners pay for it later through repairs, discomfort, and inefficiency.

A home should be built to perform, not just to look finished.

CHEAP RENOVATIONS USUALLY BECOME EXPENSIVE REPAIRS

The lowest quote is rarely the cheapest outcome.

Why?

Because cheap work usually skips the things you don’t see:
- Proper planning
- Correct installation methods
- Moisture protection
- Quality control
- Detailed preparation

Those are the exact things that prevent problems later.

We regularly get called in to fix “budget” renovations that looked fine at first… but failed within a few years.

Water damage, Rot, Warping, Air leaks, Structural issues

At Altitude Carpentry, we believe a renovation should not just look good on day one.

It should still be performing properly decades later.

“YEARS OF EXPERIENCE” DOES NOT ALWAYS MEAN QUALITY

This industry has a problem nobody wants to talk about.

Some contractors and carpenters have “20 years of experience”...
But never completed formal apprenticeship training.
Never went to trade school.
Never earned certification.

And unfortunately, bad habits get passed down constantly in construction.

That is why we see so many homes with:
- Water damage behind walls
- Rot around windows
- Air leaks and drafts
- Poorly planned renovations
- Structural issues hidden under nice finishes

A beautiful paint job can hide a lot of mistakes.

At Altitude Carpentry, we believe homeowners deserve more than someone who just “picked things up along the way.”

They deserve trained craftsmanship built on knowledge, accountability, and long term thinking. By a certified red seal journeyman carpenter who knows how to build things the right way!

Renovating a home today means more than just updating its look. It’s about creating spaces that are healthier, more efficient, and kinder to the environment. These solutions help homeowners improve comfort, reduce energy costs, and increase property value while minimizing environmental impact.

At Altitude Carpentry, we specialize in sustainable residential construction and renovation projects. Why Choose Green Renovation Solutions?

Green renovation solutions are designed to reduce waste, conserve energy, and use materials that have a lower environmental footprint. These renovations not only benefit the planet but also improve your home’s durability and comfort. Here are some key reasons to consider green renovations:

Energy Efficiency: Upgrading insulation, windows, and heating systems can significantly lower energy bills.
Healthier Living Spaces: Using non-toxic paints, finishes, and materials improves indoor air quality.
Long-Term Savings: Durable materials and efficient systems reduce maintenance and replacement costs.
Increased Home Value: Eco-friendly features are attractive to buyers and can boost resale value.
Environmental Responsibility: Reducing your home’s carbon footprint helps protect the local ecosystem.

By choosing green renovation solutions, you invest in a home that supports your lifestyle and the environment.
