So what can 50KWatts/Hours of Solar Power actually do for your home.
You could run a 2.5-ton central AC system for 14.3 hours (yes, AC is a huge user of electricity). So, solar can power your home’s AC energy needs. AC units are typically the biggest item to use power during the summer months, this is why our customer see their biggest energy costs in July and August.

50 kWh per day of solar power also allows you to bake at 350oF in your electric oven for 25 hours, though that might overcook your ham just a bit.

A typical 50 gallon electric water heater uses 385 kWh per month, which is about 12.8 kWh per day, well under the 50 kWh produced daily by your hypothetical home solar energy system. Keep in mind, some of our customers use NG to heat their hot water, so this may not apply in all cases.

And now, for the number you’ve all been waiting for: You could run 26 loads of laundry on the warm/cold setting in a top loading washing machine. Use hot water, and it’s a lot less. Use cold/cold, and you can do even more.

Remember – these are all based on a solar energy production rate of 50 kWh per day, which is 1500 per month.
We’re also assuming you have a solar power home energy system that produces 50 kWh per day. This too varies depending on the size of the solar array you’ve installed on your home, where you live, the weather, and many other factors.

"But!, Solar can not produce that in the winter time!" This is another example of someone who is misinformed or has assumed knowledge of solar. In the picture, you can see the output of a Solar System we have installed, The date is Feb 11th, just 2 days after a major storm in the area. The output of this system for the day was 42.99 kWhours. It would have been a great day to have the kids do laundry.

Solar may not be for everyone, but why not have us do an free energy assessment of your home, farm or business to see if it might be a viable option for you. And in case you haven't heard, we can install it for no money up front!

Alot of people have been asking can Solar Panels with stand hail storms, specifically the hail storms in Southern Alberta.
Wow, does southern Alberta ever get big hail sometimes.... Should this be a concern when deciding to install Solar Panels on your roof?
Just like Automobiles, Shingles, Siding and your Kids, Solar Panels can be damaged by hail.....But, it is highly unlikely they will.
Solar panels are made with a tempered glass that gets tested and rated for 1″ hail at 88kph at 90 degrees to the panel. The fact that most panels are set at an angle, reduces the likelihood of a direct perpendicular hit. Panels typically can out-stand hail that your shingles can not. There is multiple stories of insurance companies paying to have solar panels removed and reinstalled, so that the roof can be re-shingled after a hail storm.
We at Freedom Energy recommend that you contact your insurance company and have your Solar System added to your home owners policy, so that it is covered.
"But that will increase the cost of my insurance"... The feedback we have received ranges from no extra cost to an additional $20 a year to have your system insured.
Please check out this video, showing a typical Hail Test on a Solar Panel.

Watch as billiard ball sized hail stones impact a Conergy Powerplus solar panel at speeds over 120 kph.

Are you tired of the cost of electricity?

Do you think alternative power is expensive?

What if I told you that we can install Solar Power on your house that will reduce your cost of electricity and there is no cost up front?

Maybe you noticed an increase in your electric bill lately, like we did?
Would that make you want to ask how you can lock in your cost of electricity?

Freedom Energy was recently asked some very important questions. So that everyone can see our responses, we decide to post our answers here.

1. Are there any grants in place yet/now in Alberta to subsidize such a system?
Yes, in Alberta, There are grants in place. When your system is installed and approved by all regulator bodies, Freedom Energy assists you in applying for a rebate.
Residential rebates are 30% of Install up to $10000
Commercial/Agricultural are 25% of install.

2. How durable are these panels (honestly) with our Calgary hail storms? And if damaged via hail... we go through insurance?
The Solar Panels that are sold today are very durable, they test them by dropping ball bearings from a significant height. Surprisingly, They will withstand a very large hail storm with out damage.
Yes, like your shingles on your roof or the siding o your house, your solar system should be insured in your home policy. We recommend that you check with your insurance provider.

3. To still make a small payment a month, is this because the utilities have locked down their monopolies (again) and we're not allowed to sell extra power back into the grid?
When we design our systems for your home, we target a "net zero" installation. Meaning your cost of energy from the power company is zero over a period of one year. For a further explanation of Net Zero, please scroll down to our post fully explaining this. Any additional power your Solar System produces is sold back to the power company, and if at the end of the year there is a credit in your favor, they are mandated to pay you for that power.

I once priced a system for the top of a 6-plex. $40K out of my own pocket (no grants available). And what little it produced would have taken 40 YEARS for me to see a return. And if ANY panels were hail damaged within that time, I would be out of pocket for insurance deductible and increased premiums. IS this true?
We are finding that the systems we propose will pay for them selves in 8-12 years in Alberta.(Without Rebate) A little longer in other areas. Every installation is unique. Some produce more power than others due to many factors, shading, roof direction, size of roof and angle of roof. I would recommend having us do a free no obligation energy assessment for your property.
