What Makes Us Different? ❤️🏗️

It's simple — we're passionate about what we do, and we care about the impact we make!

🌱 Building With the Future in Mind.
We consider climate change and the importance of creating more sustainable, resilient spaces.

💚 Putting People First.
Health and well-being matter. We believe the spaces we build should support the people who live, work, and spend time in them.

♻️ Making Thoughtful Material Choices.
The materials we use matter — where they come from, how they're produced, and how much carbon they emit. We carefully evaluate our options to find the right balance between performance, durability, and environmental impact.

🌍 Bringing Global Perspectives Together.
We're a multicultural team, bringing experience, knowledge, and building approaches from different parts of the world. By combining diverse perspectives with local expertise, we create homes designed for high energy performance, comfort, and long-term value.

🏡 Designed for High Performance.
We invest time in evaluating materials, building assemblies, and design details to understand how they work together. From insulation and airtightness to energy efficiency, every decision matters. Our goal is to create homes that perform exceptionally well, use energy efficiently, and support healthy living.

✨ And the Results? Beautiful spaces, happy clients, and a healthier planet.

Because we believe great design should feel good, perform well, and make a positive difference — for the people who call a house home and for the world we all share. 💚🌎

That's the HSS Design Build difference.

We are incredibly proud and excited to share that we have been named a finalist for the Bow Valley Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards in the Sustainability in Action Award category! 🌿

We know there are so many incredible organizations across the Bow Valley working hard, inspiring change, and making a difference. It is a true privilege to stand alongside them and be recognized for the work we care so deeply about.

Our work matters. And as long as we are here, we will continue to push for positive change and work toward making sustainability something that is embedded in everything we do - not just something we talk about.

Thank you to everyone who supports us, believes in what we are doing, and continues to walk this journey with us. We are so grateful to be part of a community that cares so much about our future. 💚

We’re heading to BUILDEX Calgary! 🏗️🌱

📅 October 21 & 22, 2026
📍 BMO Centre at Stampede Park, Calgary

We’ll be at the show and we’d love to see you there!

Stop by our booth and come say hi to the HSS team. Ask us about the Passive House solutions we’ve been implementing across the Bow Valley, and our PEER (Prefabricated Exterior Energy Retrofit) research - a new retrofit system we’ve been exploring with our partners.

🎤 And if you really want to hear Raph talk about what we do, there’ll be a chance for that too! 😉 He’ll be sharing some of the on-the-ground work we’ve been doing over the past decade.

If you’re interested in high-performance buildings, deep energy retrofits, prefabrication, or simply want to nerd out about building better - come find us!
The best conversations happen in person 😉

Take a moment today to pause.

Today is a day for reflection.

To reflect on this land, and on those who came before us.
To remember the beautiful lives lost — those who never had the chance to see their futures unfold.
To honor the children taken by the residential school system, those who never returned, and the families and communities who still carry the pain and trauma.

Take a moment today to pause.

To consider how you came to be on this land.
To reflect on your relationship with it, and with those who have stewarded it long before first settlers arrived on this land.
And most importantly — to ask how you can move forward in a better way, in right relation with this land and all those who share it.

May today be a day of meaningful reflection — reflection that moves us toward action, and toward creating a brighter, more just future for everyone.

What a joy to visit this beautiful, energy-efficient home with its stunning light well, just one day before our clients moved in! ✨

So many hands, ideas, and hours went into bringing this project to life, and we hope this rejuvenated home becomes the setting for many wonderful memories to come.

Enjoy your beautiful new space, Amanda & Paul! 🏡❤️

A heartfelt thank you to our incredible team, and especially to our Senior Project & Construction Manager, Chris Rock, who managed the contractors and supported the team throughout this project.

And thank you to HEREBY Architectural Inc. @ for your incredible vision and for helping bring this beautiful home to life. We’re so proud of what we created together!

Some of the most important parts of a high-performance home are the things you never see. 🌱

The insulation.
The airtightness.
The carefully installed windows.
The details that keep heat in, moisture out, and fresh air moving.

It may not always be the most exciting part of building — but getting these details right is what helps create comfortable, healthy, efficient homes that perform for years to come.

And honestly, that’s the kind of stuff we get excited about and place a lot of attention to. 😉

🌱 Curious about our PEER projects?

PEER — Prefabricated Exterior Energy Retrofit — is an approach we’re exploring to improve existing homes while reducing energy use and carbon.

Both of our Wood Fibre PEER projects in Canmore are now featured on Retrofit Canada, with project data, process details, and technical insights.

🏠 Narrow Lot Home

👉 Explore both case studies through the link in our bio.

And a big thank you to Joe, who led the research and documented both case studies, and to the whole site team — including Brock — for contributing their knowledge, skills, and hard work.

Because we all have a role to play in climate action, and every contribution counts. We’re grateful to our clients, our team, and partners like SSRIA for helping us learn, test, and move things forward. 🌎
