☀️Summer means more rooftop work—HVAC service, inspections, and maintenance—but also higher risk when safe access isn’t in place. 🚧 Proper rooftop access systems like fixed ladders, guardrails, hatch protection, crossovers and tie-off points are essential for preventing falls and keeping workers safe. They also help reduce fatigue and risk during hot weather when focus can drop.

Before starting work, always ensure:
• Access points are secure and inspected
• Fall protection is in place and used correctly
• Workers are trained for rooftop conditions

Safe access isn’t just compliance—it’s what prevents serious injuries and keeps jobs moving safely all summer long.
If your building is missing proper rooftop safe access systems, we provide custom fabrication and installation solutions to bring your site up to standard and keep your team protected. Contact us at 905-515-5879 / [email protected] to learn more!

Fun Fact Friday 💧
Legionella bacteria naturally exist in freshwater environments like lakes and rivers — but they typically only become a public health concern when they grow inside man-made water systems.
In nature, the bacteria are usually present at low, harmless levels that rarely pose a significant risk to people. However, in built water systems, warm temperatures, stagnant water, and biofilm buildup can create ideal conditions for rapid bacterial growth and spread.

Before ➡️ After: Heat Transfer Fill Replacement
Over time, cooling tower fill can become clogged, scaled, brittle, or damaged — reducing heat transfer efficiency and increasing operational strain on your system.

Replacing deteriorated fill helps:
• Improve cooling efficiency
• Restore proper water flow and distribution
• Reduce energy consumption
• Minimize scaling and fouling issues
• Support cleaner, safer system operation
• Extend the life of the equipment

This recent fill replacement dramatically improved overall condition and performance, helping the system operate more efficiently heading into the warmer months. Routine inspection and maintenance of cooling tower components is key to maintaining performance and reducing long-term operating costs.

🚧 To replace the client’s damaged coil section, the entire upper half of the cooling tower had to be carefully dismantled and removed before the new section could be installed. This type of work takes detailed planning, experienced technicians, and a strong focus on safety from start to finish.
Projects like this are a reminder that sometimes the right repair means going far beyond a simple component swap — ensuring the system is restored properly, safely, and built for long-term performance.

Preventive maintenance isn’t just maintenance — it’s protection for your equipment, budget, and operations.

Emergency cooling tower repairs often cost up to 10x more than routine preventive maintenance. Regular service helps:
✔ Keep your cooling tower operating efficiently
✔ Reduce unexpected downtime
✔ Catch issues before they become costly failures
✔ Extend equipment lifespan by years
A small investment in maintenance today can prevent major repair costs tomorrow.

If your cooling tower hasn’t had a pre-startup inspection yet, the season is already getting away from you.
Most cooling towers in Southern Ontario are back online by mid-May. Starting up without a documented inspection means operating with unknown basin sediment, corrosion, and biological risk that built up over winter.
A system that runs dirty from day one carries that contamination through the entire cooling season — impacting efficiency, reliability, and water quality.

HCTS performs:
✔ Pre-startup inspections
✔ Full mechanical cleaning
✔ Basin and system assessments
✔ Startup preparation before your tower goes under load

Don’t wait until performance issues appear mid-season. Get ahead of it now, contact us at 905-515-5879 / [email protected] to book today!

⚠️ LEGIONELLA ALERT – TORONTO & HAMILTON ⚠️
Recent Legionnaires’ disease outbreaks in Toronto and Hamilton are raising concerns about contaminated water systems and cooling towers. Legionella bacteria can grow in HVAC systems, hot water tanks, cooling towers, and industrial water systems — spreading through contaminated mist or water droplets.

Symptoms can include:
• Fever
• Cough
• Shortness of breath
• Pneumonia-like illness

We are supplying RAPID LEGIONELLA TESTING KITS for commercial, industrial, healthcare, and building water systems. 📩 Contact us for more information, pricing, and availability at 905-515-5879 / [email protected]

🚨 Toronto Public Health is currently investigating a Legionnaires’ disease outbreak after 9 confirmed cases were identified in the city.
Legionella bacteria are commonly linked to poorly maintained water systems — especially cooling towers, evaporative condensers, humidifiers, and other aerosol-producing equipment. Once contaminated water becomes airborne, exposure can extend far beyond the building itself.

This is a strong reminder that:
✔ Routine inspection matters
✔ Water treatment matters
✔ Preventive maintenance matters

Many Legionella outbreaks are preventable with proper cooling tower maintenance and water management programs.
If your facility operates a cooling tower, now is the time to review your maintenance and Legionella prevention protocols.
