Finished up this backyard makeover for a repeat client. After lots of wheelbarrowing and shoveling, it’s complete.

We dug down around the perimeter fence and installed clear blue chip with 12–14” drainage troughs to improve water flow and drainage throughout the yard. We also installed a 4x4 border around the perimeter of the yard and walkways, then raised the grade roughly 12 inches along the lower section of the property to improve both drainage and overall layout.

Hey everyone, I’m Michael MacKrell, and I wanted to properly introduce myself. I’ve been in excavation my whole life—learning to develop lots, cut grades with an excavator, build proper retaining walls, and assess properties to figure out the best solutions. Moving to Vancouver Island and launching Black Mountain Dirt Works was a huge leap. We’re all about the customer experience, and the customer always comes first.
