Every October 4th, Sisters in Spirit vigils are held to honour the strength, resilience, and memory of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals. These vigils also provide vital support to families who have endured the profound loss of a loved one.

As an Indigenous-owned company operating along the Highway of Tears and working with communities across the province, we witness the deep impacts of this ongoing injustice. We stand in solidarity with those affected and are dedicated to raising awareness and promoting safety in our workplaces and communities.

Vigils can take many forms—candlelight, gatherings, workshops, or simply a moment of reflection. Today, we share a digital candle to shine light and bring hope to this important cause.

Today, as we honour the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we acknowledge the legacy of residential schools in Canada—a legacy that continues to affect Indigenous families and communities across the country.

For those of us who are residential school survivors or intergenerational survivors, this day serves as a reminder of the resilience and strength found within our families, our communities, and our ancestors. At Roga, we stand with our employees and the Nations we work with, acknowledging the history and ongoing healing that is necessary.

This day is not just about reflection, but also about action. We advocate for economic reconciliation, supporting Indigenous-led initiatives, and creating spaces where the truth of our shared history is acknowledged and respected. We encourage everyone—our employees, partners, families, and communities—to take the time to reflect, listen, and learn.

As a company that is proud of its Indigenous identity, today we pause to honour all those who have been affected by residential schools and the broader colonial system in Canada. We encourage everyone to engage in meaningful dialogue, learn more about the history of residential schools, and take steps toward creating a better future together.

Our quarry site is experiencing significant growth and development as we advance on our $24.4 million contract with Aecon-EBC for BC Hydro’s John Hart Dam Seismic Upgrades Project. This expansion of almost 1 hectare was necessary for an increase to our storage capacity for rip rap products before they are transported to the construction site. It created about 500 m3 of merchantable timber, and the stumps are being re-purposed to become fish habitat in John Hart Lake.

🔬 Scope of Work:
Way Key LP is focused on supplying rip rap products to Aecon-EBC. Production capacity has increased substantially since mid-July, reflecting a notable rise in monthly output.

🗓 Timeline:
The project commenced in summer of 2023 and is slated for completion in 2026.

💼 Community Involvement:
The quarry has created jobs for community members, with over $900,000 paid in wages to date to Indigenous employees by Way Key Sand & Gravel.
