Today we're highlighting a couple of neat hood ranges that we've done this year.

Hood ranges are an interesting component of a kitchen redesign. They fulfill a really important functional purpose by providing suitable ventilation for the space, but they can also present fun design opportunities

The first is from a rich chocolate oak kitchen that we completed last Christmas. The fan needed to be easily accessible but hidden in a way that fit seamlessly with the rest of the cabinetry. This video shows the end result.

The second was built to match an existing IKEA kitchen. Fun fact: while IKEA kitchen displays might include hood ranges, they aren't something they actually sell. The goal of this one was to elevate the new IKEA cabinets. What do you think... did we succeed?

Let's take a minute to appreciate the difference quality hardware makes. This is a narrow soft-close pullout for tall items like spices or bottles that helped maximize the storage space on this island.

Putting some custom closets at home today. I love this natural birch with clear coat. It reminds me of the original Ikea style modular furniture that was heavily influenced the scandi minimalist style. Just simple clean storage that is functional and will last a long time. The beauty with these units lies in their multi use functionality. As of now, they are closet organizers, in a few years, we can move them to the play room for added toy storage.

Here are some photos of a fiberglass door that we stained for a client. The original door comes in an almond plastic color. I didn't get a picture of it.

But, in these pictures, you can see part of the process. We started by applying a dark gel stain to fill in the grain texture of the door. This was followed by a seal coat of a 2 component polyurethane finish. We then sprayed a light colored spray stain to even out the color and create some variation in the door to mimic the look of real wood. This was then topcoated with a final coat of polarionX polyurethane topcoat. It's the most durable exterior coating we have used so far.
