This was one of those ones most people wouldn’t tackle or would walk away from.
Upon arrival and site assessment , it was determined that the neighbours deck, & an old clogged fake French Drain, and a neighbours eavestrough had deteriorated the neighbours deck , and the shared 2FT retaining wall pushing both over several Inches.
It took our client 5 yrs to convince the home
Owner ( A Maintenance Man for a LTD of sorts Renting out the home) to split the cost on just the fence, so upon news she’d have to replace the wall in order to have a fence she was pretty tapped out.
If the fence was done on property line without the risk of all the soil spilling out from the cut sections was pretty high. If we did a straight only line , my client would lose between 7-12 inches along the fence line.
We decided on taking on the whole thing with full disclosure on our method and fee and she signed off on it , so without adding massive amounts of costs, and risk, both tasks were completed placing the fence line as close the the old property line as possible , being the neighbours deck was still sneaking a few inches.
I felt really bad for the renters in the neighbouring house , it’s the first time in 8 yrs we haven’t been able to reattach a gate, as with the old posts being so rotten that when the fence was taken down the terminal post , gate and tie in section understandably gave way, and we couldn’t convince the landlord to pay for the replacement even at a min cost since I was on site.
Sometimes it’s true. You can’t pick your neighbours but you can pick your own fence.
