This is an American article, but the message (and Biden's/Justin Trudeau's programs are) the same.

Childcare is expensive but WHY.

Because we have degrees. The social, emotional, and physical well being of our children is well deserving above the poverty line.

Because childcare needs to cover: Over head (mortgage, utilities, food, wages, equipment, replacements, maintenance ect) staff wages, FOOD ( the average Canadian family of 4 spends 700 dollars a month & the dollar amount amount goes up the more west you go), crafts/science/guests/offsite trips.

We strive to create quality, safe, clean (Ohhh the cleaning i do in a day would knock your socks off) programs that create choice for you and your family. Reggio Emilia, Montessori, Waldorf, Forest School, Academic based, and Play based.

The $10 a day program doesn't even cover a staff wage, or the craft budget. And creates a whole generation dependent on government subsidies paid for by our own taxes.

But most of all. YOUR children are the future. And our future deserves the very best.

Families that need help getting child care don’t need multi-billion-dollar programs. They would be better served by simple changes to existing programs.

Nor is there much evidence that universal daycare is good for children. Despite the budget lavishing praise on the Quebec system, two long-term studies on its childcare system, also by Baker, Gruber and Milligan, tell a dark tale. These scholars talk of consistent and robust evidence for negative effects on child outcomes, especially for boys. Think more hyperactivity, inattention, aggressiveness, issues with motor and social skills plus a reduction of the child-parent relationship.

If we’re going to spend billions to support women’s preferences should we not let her decide those preferences for herself?
