A $2,000 repair vs. a $20,000 replacement, here's how I actually decide which one you need.
If the damage is isolated (a section of flashing, a few dozen shingles, one area of rot) and the rest of the roof has real life left in it, I'll tell you to repair it. Even though the replacement quote is bigger for me.
If the roof is past its practical lifespan and a repair is just delaying an expense that's coming anyway, I'll tell you that too, with the reasoning, not just the number.
Either way, you get the honest answer and the reasoning behind it. That's not a slogan, it's just how I'd want someone to treat my own house.

Insurance claims scare people more than the actual roof damage does. Here's how it really works when I do a hail inspection:
I get on the roof and document everything, photos, measurements, exact locations of damage
You get a written report that's built to match what your adjuster needs to see
I walk your property with the adjuster if needed, so nothing gets missed or written off as "wear and tear"
We only talk replacement if replacement is actually the right call, not because it's the bigger invoice
Most of the stress in a hail claim comes from not knowing what's normal. I've done enough of these that I can usually tell you in the first ten minutes whether you have a real claim or not.

Here's something most homeowners don't know: upgrading to Class 4 hail-resistant shingles can qualify you for a 10–30% discount on your home insurance premium.

Hail season in Calgary doesn't always announce itself on your roof.
A few signs it's worth a look: 🔍 Dark spots or bruising on shingles (granule loss) 🔍 Soft spots when you press gently on the shingle surface 🔍 Dented gutters, downspouts, or window screens, if those took a hit, your roof probably did too 🔍 Cracked or missing granules pooling near your downspouts after rain
Most hail damage doesn't leak right away. It just shortens the life of the roof until it does, usually at the worst possible time.
