Annual salsa making with my sister.

Here are the basic steps for any canning. After this I put in the water bath canner for 25 minutes, making sure the water is covering the jars by at least 1 inch.

Canning is so simple and so fun! What is something you want to can but have not made yet? For me it is canning black beans. I keep meaning to get around to it.

No big deal. I just have to harvest and preserve everything I planted in the next few weeks.

Anyone else feeling the overwhelm of this right now and wondering why you planted so much? I know winter me will be grateful for all the work I do this September to put food away. But at the moment, it is a lot!

One of my favourite parts of my garden this year was this beautiful herb garden box from YYC Planters. Being just steps away from my kitchen made it so easy to add fresh herbs to cooking.

Indoor planting reminder!

Zinnias, cilantro and nasturtiums can also be direct sown.

I added melons to this list, but really about mid April seems to be the perfect time to start those indoors for me. I find they grow much slower than squash.
