Although all of these seeds can be directly sown, in my experience, with the microclimate I am in, I have SO much more success when I start these indoors.

Corn, cucumbers and squash all need to be hardened off carefully and should be covered until night temperatures are above 10°C (50°F). I love to use the cloches from Dollarama or upside down jars to cover squash and cucumbers. I have hoops and put poly over my corn.

This is the only way I have had consistent success with these plants out in my garden.

Borage is a herb that grows easily and pollinators love! It is a pretty good edition to a garden and can be direct sown. Once planted it will self seed for future years.

Indoor planting reminder!

Zinnias, cilantro and nasturtiums can also be direct sown.

I added melons to this list, but really about mid April seems to be the perfect time to start those indoors for me. I find they grow much slower than squash.

What are else are you planting this week?

Follow for more planting reminders. Share so your friends know what to start this week as well!
