⚡ Thinking about upgrading to a 200 Amp Service? Here’s why more homeowners are making the switch:
✅ More capacity for today’s electrical demands
Modern homes use far more power than they did years ago — EV chargers, hot tubs, air conditioning, home offices, basement suites, and high-end appliances all add up quickly.
✅ Better safety and reliability
A properly upgraded electrical service helps ensure your home’s electrical system is capable of safely handling increased power demands.
✅ Future-ready for renovations and additions
Planning a garage heater, air conditioner, induction stove, or home addition? A 200 amp service gives you room to grow without pushing your electrical system to its limits.
✅ Increased home value
A modern 200 amp service is a strong selling feature and gives buyers confidence that the electrical system can support modern living.
✅ Supports EV charging
Many Level 2 EV chargers require additional electrical capacity. A 200 amp upgrade often makes installation much easier and code compliant.
At Rickman Electrical Services, we provide professional 200 amp service upgrades complete with permits, inspections, and coordination with the utility provider.

Absolutely right! I have worked first hand on these food trucks and they are not cheap to build, run, and maintain. People dont realize all the efforts, and additional costs that go into these rolling restaurants behind the scene just getting ready for an event. I will always support a local small business over a big box chain anyday!

⚠️ Electrical Safety Reminder – Kitchen Receptacles ⚠️

I had a recent service call where a homeowner sent me a video showing visible sparking coming from a kitchen counter receptacle. With the lights off, the arcing was clearly visible — yet the breaker was not tripping.

Once on site, the cause became clear.
The kitchen had multiple split receptacles that had been altered incorrectly over time. Instead of being supplied with proper 3-wire cable, someone had extended them using multiple 2-wire cables taken off existing split receptacles. The neutrals were improperly split and shared, and approximately half of the kitchen receptacles were ungrounded.

Compounding the issue, the home was equipped with a Federal Pioneer electrical panel, a panel type well known in the electrical industry for breakers that may not trip reliably under fault or overload conditions, especially when the original breakers are still in service. This explains how active arcing could occur without the breaker operating as intended.

This combination created a serious safety hazard:

Backfeeding through shared neutrals
Overheating and arcing at receptacles
Ungrounded outlets in a kitchen environment
Breakers not providing dependable protection

⚡ Important note for homeowners:

If your home is equipped with a Federal Pioneer panel with original breakers, it may be worth having a professional electrical consultation to assess the condition of the panel and discuss upgrade options. While not every panel fails the same way, these panels have a documented history that warrants closer evaluation.

⚡ Key takeaway:

Just because a breaker hasn’t tripped doesn’t mean everything is safe. Proper wiring, grounding, and reliable overcurrent protection are critical to preventing electrical fires.
If you ever notice sparking, buzzing, heat, or unusual behavior from a receptacle, stop using it immediately and have it inspected by a qualified electrician.

Electrical safety isn’t optional.
