Most people only see the before and the after. Here's the part in between.

When a window comes out, this is what you're looking at. The rough opening, the framing, and everything the old window was hiding. It's also the moment where proper preparation makes the biggest difference before the new window goes in.

Give your windows an end-of-summer refresh.

Summer can leave plenty of dust and debris behind, not only on the glass, but around the frames too. A quick clean now helps clear that buildup before wetter weather returns.

For the glass and frames, keep it simple: mild soap and water, followed by a clean rinse and a soft cloth to dry. While you’re there, clear any debris from the small drainage holes at the bottom of the exterior frame so water can flow out properly.

One thing not to bring to the job: abrasive cleaners, razor blades or a pressure washer. They can damage the glass, finishes and seals.

Meet Ramiza Kool, Project Consultant at A1 Windows since 2014.

She holds a diploma in Architectural and Building Technology from BCIT, specializing in Building Science, and brings that technical background to every residential project she takes on.

At A1, each residential client works with one main point of contact from start to finish. For Ramiza, that means really understanding what a homeowner needs and considering energy efficiency, structural requirements, building codes and permits before recommending anything.

“It’s not always about choosing the newest product—it’s about finding the right solution,” she says. "When a standard product isn’t the right fit, we can custom-design a solution instead".

Over a decade in, Ramiza still enjoys the variety each project brings—meeting new people, solving different challenges and helping homeowners bring their ideas to life. For her, it’s rewarding to combine her background in building science with her passion for helping people.
