Before you say yes to a shift. Have in mind:

Not every jobsite is the same.

So before you accept a shift, make sure you ask:

-Where is the site?
Make sure the commute works for you.

- What time do I start?
Know the exact start time and schedule.

- What am I doing?
Make sure the work matches your experience and what you're comfortable doing.

- What do I need to bring?
PPE, boots, tickets, tools. Know what's expected before you arrive.

- How long is the shift?
Know the expected hours and schedule.

Being upfront about what you can do, where you can work, and what you're looking for helps us find opportunities that actually make sense for you.

You don't want to show up to a job you're not prepared for.
And we don't want to send you somewhere that's not a good fit.

When the worker and the jobsite are a good match, everyone wins.

-Help with site setup and cleanup.
-Keep access clear and work areas organized.

A good labor doesn't need to know how to do everything.

They need to be reliable, work safely, follow direction, and be ready to help wherever the crew needs them.

Rainy season is here.

Here’s what actually helps when you’re working outdoors.

Waterproof boots.
Your boots are your first line of defence against wet conditions. Once water gets in, your shift gets a lot harder.

Keep a second pair of socks in your bag.
If your boots do get wet, having a dry pair is your backup plan.

Wear rain gear that breathes.
A plastic shell might keep the rain out, but if it traps all your sweat inside, you can end up just as wet.

Good rain gear isn’t about staying comfortable for five minutes. It’s about getting through a full shift without fighting your own gear.

Today at JPD Staffing we pause to recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day.

We remember the Survivors, the children who never returned home to their families, and the generations of Indigenous communities affected by the residential school system.

For us, reconciliation starts with listening, learning, and understanding the history that brought us here. Today is a day to reflect, remember, and continue that work with respect.

Your first 30 minutes on a new site.

Before you touch a tool, there’s an orientation.

Every site we send workers to has one. And you do it every time — even if you’ve been working construction for 20 years, or you were on the same site last month with another contractor.

It’s site-specific, not worker-specific.

So what actually happens?

You sign in.
The safety officer checks your tickets.
You’re briefed on what’s happening on site that day.
You’re shown where the muster point is.
And you are told who the first aid attendant is.

Most people tune out during that last part.

Don’t.

The muster point is where everyone goes during an emergency so the site can account for workers and know who may still be inside.

And knowing who your first aid attendant is means you know exactly who to go to if someone gets injured or needs medical attention.

The rest? You’ll pick it up as you go.

Then you meet your foreman, get to know the site, and get to work.
