Join SDG’s own Brad Smith, OALA, FCSLA, ASLA, at the upcoming OALA Conference for an interactive site tour of Waterloo Park’s Silver Lake precinct, exploring how thoughtful design can create spaces that bring people together, inspire connection, and spark moments of joy.

This tour will showcase the transformation of Silver Lake from a neglected urban landscape into a vibrant, resilient, and deeply loved public space. Participants will experience the park as a sequence of “sticky joyful moments” shaped by movement, water, culture, and connection, from immersive waterfront edges and playful fountains to universally accessible spaces that reconnect people of all abilities with nature.

Registration is now available through the OALA website. Visit the link in our bio to learn more and reserve your spot!

Early Mornings at Casablanca Waterfront Park!

Last week, Haig had the distinct pleasure of returning as host of the Landscape Ontario Awards of Excellence and considered it a genuine honour to present alongside such a distinguished community of industry professionals. The evening provided an opportunity to recognize exceptional creativity, craftsmanship, and collaboration, and was both professionally rewarding and personally meaningful. For Haig, the event represented not only a celebration of outstanding landscape projects, but also a valued reconnection with an association and industry he holds in the highest regard.

Congratulations to all the award winners!

In landscape architecture, design is more than the overall layout, it’s in the details that spaces truly come to life. Elements such as material choices, planting transitions, edge conditions, drainage solutions, lighting, and human-scale features shape how a space is experienced daily.

Thoughtful detailing ensures that a landscape is not only visually appealing but also functional, safe, and sustainable. The way a path meets a lawn, how seating is integrated into topography, or how plants are layered for seasonal interest can determine whether a space feels inviting or overlooked. Small decisions influence accessibility, durability, maintenance, and user comfort.

Last week was all about celebrating and connecting as a team!

On Thursday, we hit the bowling lanes for our annual office Christmas party, followed by a festive dinner to wrap up the year.

On Friday, we visited Earthscape, where we spent time learning more about their team and getting a behind-the-scenes look at their space. Thank you to the team for welcoming us and taking the time to host such a great visit.

We then headed to Hauser Site Furniture for a lunch-and-learn and plant tour. A big thank you to the team for hosting us, showing us around, and sharing your time with us.

A great couple of days filled with team time and gratitude as we head into the holidays!

SDG was proud to attend the groundbreaking ceremony at 4500 Park Street, Niagara Falls last Monday! Retained by who partnered with the City of Niagara Falls, we are very excited to support this 326 unit development, delivering more affordable and attainable homes to the community.
More residents downtown means more support for local businesses, and a vibrant, connected neighborhood. With shovels officially in the ground, we are looking forward to seeing this project take shape!
