Last week, Haig had the distinct pleasure of returning as host of the Landscape Ontario Awards of Excellence and considered it a genuine honour to present alongside such a distinguished community of industry professionals. The evening provided an opportunity to recognize exceptional creativity, craftsmanship, and collaboration, and was both professionally rewarding and personally meaningful. For Haig, the event represented not only a celebration of outstanding landscape projects, but also a valued reconnection with an association and industry he holds in the highest regard.

In landscape architecture, design is more than the overall layout, it’s in the details that spaces truly come to life. Elements such as material choices, planting transitions, edge conditions, drainage solutions, lighting, and human-scale features shape how a space is experienced daily.

Thoughtful detailing ensures that a landscape is not only visually appealing but also functional, safe, and sustainable. The way a path meets a lawn, how seating is integrated into topography, or how plants are layered for seasonal interest can determine whether a space feels inviting or overlooked. Small decisions influence accessibility, durability, maintenance, and user comfort.

Last week was all about celebrating and connecting as a team!

On Thursday, we hit the bowling lanes for our annual office Christmas party, followed by a festive dinner to wrap up the year.

On Friday, we visited Earthscape, where we spent time learning more about their team and getting a behind-the-scenes look at their space. Thank you to the team for welcoming us and taking the time to host such a great visit.

We then headed to Hauser Site Furniture for a lunch-and-learn and plant tour. A big thank you to the team for hosting us, showing us around, and sharing your time with us.

A great couple of days filled with team time and gratitude as we head into the holidays!

SDG was proud to attend the groundbreaking ceremony at 4500 Park Street, Niagara Falls last Monday! Retained by who partnered with the City of Niagara Falls, we are very excited to support this 326 unit development, delivering more affordable and attainable homes to the community.
More residents downtown means more support for local businesses, and a vibrant, connected neighborhood. With shovels officially in the ground, we are looking forward to seeing this project take shape!

Exciting News!

Located in the heart of downtown Oakville, Knox Presbyterian Church is a landmark of spiritual and architectural heritage. As part of its ongoing facility improvements, the Church is undertaking a revitalization of its exterior grounds to better serve its congregation and the wider community. In collaboration with Farrow Architects, SDG has been engaged to provide full landscape architectural services to support this important transformation!

We’re back from an inspiring weekend at the Conference in New Orleans!

SDG Partners Brad and Haig Seferian had the honour of presenting “Scaling Beyond Boundaries: Strategies for Growing and Sustaining a Small Landscape Architecture Firm” alongside Mark Stewart of Wentworth Strategy Group.

Beyond sharing our own experiences, the conference was an incredible opportunity to attend thought-provoking sessions, explore new ideas shaping the profession, and connect with passionate colleagues from across North America.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined our session and to the ASLA community for another year of learning, inspiration, and meaningful connection!

SDG is excited to share the Conestoga College Waterloo Campus Courtyard! 
The new courtyard reveals a place that celebrates Indigenous culture, fosters community, and educates visitors about the history of the land and the Indigenous nations connected to it. The goal of the landscape is to speak to all Indigenous students, faculty, staff, and community members on campus.

SDG was retained by the college to bring Indigenous and cultural design elements to life within the courtyard through work done during the conceptual design phase. Elements include shade structures and gardens for plant medicines, Indigenous trees and cultural markers, inspirational paving, and furnishings that support gathering and events. The design incorporates storytelling and cultural expression to create a warm, welcoming, and comfortable environment for all.
