Drumlin Built is looking to hire a Lead Carpenter & one to two Experienced Carpenters to join our team.

All Candidates must have:

-A valid driver’s license and access to transportation to job sites in the Municipality of Lunenburg and surrounding area

-Ability to work in accordance with general safety best practices with minimal oversight

-A demonstrated ability to operate hand, power and air tools in a safe and efficient manner

-Comfortable working at heights using ladders and scaffolding

-Ability to safely lift and work with heavy objects such as lumber, sheet material and other building supplies (with assistance when necessary)

Experienced Carpenter Candidates should have:

-Two or more years experience in residential construction & renovation, or a combination of jobsite experience and educational training

-A strong interest in pursuing carpentry as a career, and a willingness to dedicate yourself to learning and problem solving with the support of the Drumlin Built team

Lead Carpenter Candidates should have:

-Red Seal certification or equivalent experience

-Knowledge of building science and best practices (air barriers, vapour control, thermal bridging, ventilation, etc.)

-Interest and knowledge in High Efficiency and Low Carbon building methods and materials

-Leadership experience in a residential construction/renovation environment, leading a team of multiple carpenters & labourers

-Experience working with, and managing, sub-trades on site

We offer competitive wages, a modified 4 day work week, guaranteed accrued sick pay, a positive work environment, and flexible time off.

Experienced Carpenters can expect a starting hourly wage of $25 to $32 depending on experience

Lead Carpenters can expect a starting hourly wage of $34+ depending on experience

Here are a few photos from an unexpected job we wrapped up recently.

We were initially hired to repair the large overhangs on this house constructed out of Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs), which were showing signs of damage due to water intrusion. Upon further inspection it was found that the water damage extended into much of the main roof SIPs and they could no longer be trusted to carry the structural loads they were intended for.

Through discussions with the SIP manufacturer, an engineer, and the homeowner, we came up with a plan and design to build a new roof structure over the roof SIPs to transfer the structural loads back onto the walls.

In the third slide you can get a good sense of how much of a drastic change this made to the original design of the house. Everything clad in white metal is new.

Lots of lessons learned on this job.

This was a fun little project from last summer near West Dublin.

We built these two circular decks for two Dome rentals to sit on. The client finished the project with a little interior framing help from us. The view is incredible and it's close to some fabulous beaches. These should be available to rent in the near future. One unit is built to be wheelchair accessible.

Moving forward Anckaert Built will now be Drumlin Built.

When I started Anckaert Built in 2015 it was little more than me and a tool belt, so I chose to use the family name on my mother's side for my business. Since then we have grown to include a crew of talented carpenters, and our projects have grown to include a number of skilled sub trades, architects, and designers. I wanted a name that is more inclusive of the team approach we take with every project.

Over the past few years we have also been shifting to concentrate on building and renovating to adapt to climate change. This means we put a focus on creating energy efficient, comfortable, resilient homes that use low carbon products. We want our projects to be part of the climate change solution instead of part of the problem.

Drumlins are a type of hill formed by glaciers that are common to this area of Nova Scotia. We chose this name because we are rooted in this community and see our work as intrinsically connected to our natural environment.

As Drumlin Built we will still be taking on projects of all sizes and, as always, will strive to provide a very high quality finished product that will last for generations. You can continue to count on a high level of communication and collaborative problem solving, and know that we will always stand by our work.

We are currently looking for one or two large anchor projects for 2024 that fit our focus on high efficiency new builds and deep energy retrofit renovations. If you or anyone you know is considering such a project, please get in touch.

This is exactly the type of build we like. A focus on high efficiency, robust building envelope, and the use of low carbon building materials. Smaller footprint for a more sustainable build. Beautiful design elements and thoughtful layout for a comfortable, healthy home for this young family.
