POSITION:
Heavy Duty Mechanic

LOCATION:
Allen & Bolack Excavating
1540 14th St E
Brandon, MB R7A 7V2

START:
As soon as possible

WAGE:
TBD – Based on Experience

HOURS of WORK:
50 hours/ week

Position Description:
This position will be part of a team that is responsible for the repair and maintenance of a fleet of Heavy Equipment. You will work closely with the Shop Manager to troubleshoot, determine parts required and complete repairs.

Skills & Abilities:
• Demonstrated ability to complete repairs on heavy construction equipment
• Demonstrated ability to assess mechanical problems, identify solutions and complete repairs
• Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with co-workers
• Willingness to learn new skills, adapt to changing needs and take direction
• Responsible and reliable
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as a team
• Ability to lift up-to 23 kg (50 lbs.)

Experience & Education:
• Minimum of 5 years experience working in a mechanical environment
• Air Conditioning Certification preferred
• Valid Driver’s License

Reporting to the Superintendent, the Sewer & Water Labourer is responsible for:
-Working and operating equipment in a safe manner.
-Analyze delivery address, determine appropriate routes, maintain schedule and drive vehicles safely to designated destinations.
-Report any accidents or injuries to supervisors immediately.
-Load and unload product in a safe manner and within deadlines.
-Perform appropriate inspections, maintain clean/safe vehicle, and advise supervisor or any issues, repairs, or maintenance of vehicle.
-Maintain daily logs, required forms and paperwork.
-Adhere to all law, regulations, and company polities and procedures.
-Work closely with the team/support team to complete all tasks assigned, provide exceptional customer service and address customer concerns.

Experience/Skills/Education Requirements:
-Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
-Construction- Water mains, Sewer, Pipelines, Underground and tunnel work, Fiber optics.
-Equipment and Machinery Experience- Compactors, Grades, Grinding Machines, Drills, Chainsaws, Small Front-End Loads, Knowledge of Heavy Equipment Operation an asset.
-Weight Handling- Up to 23 kg (50 lbs).
-Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities- Fast-paced environment, physically demanding, willing and able to work long hours and occasional weekends during peak season.
-Experience in water and sewer pipe laying is essential. Previous experience laying and connecting pipe, operating some basic heavy equipment, reading, and understanding blueprints/plans, and understand safety rules and local plumbing codes and regulations are an asset.
-Ability to work effectively and cohesively in a team setting.
-Self-starter & takes direction well.
