🔎 CASE CLOSED: Utility Locates

Before any excavation begins, there’s one question that must be answered:
What’s below the surface?

Underground infrastructure is everywhere — gas lines, hydro, telecom, water.
Without proper locates, one wrong move can lead to serious safety risks, service disruptions, and costly delays.

📍 THE FACTS
What: Utility locates identify and mark underground services
Why: To protect crews, communities, and critical infrastructure
Where: Everywhere excavation takes place
When: Always before any digging begins

At Metro Infrastructure, we don’t treat locates as a checkbox — we treat them as critical to the job.
✔ Coordinating with all utility providers
✔ Verifying markings on site
✔ Ensuring locates are current and valid
✔ Embedding safety into every step

No assumptions. No shortcuts.
Just safe, informed excavation — every time.

Know before you dig.

☀️ National Sunscreen Day ☀️

At Metro Infrastructure, safety doesn’t stop with a hard hat, boots, and a safety vest.

For our field crews working long hours outdoors, sunscreen is just as essential as any other piece of PPE. Protecting your skin from harmful UV rays helps prevent long-term damage and keeps our team healthy on and off the job site.
Before heading out each day, our crews gear up with the essentials — hard hat ✔️ safety vest ✔️ boots ✔️ sunscreen ✔️

Because taking care of our people is always part of the job.

💬 Question: What’s one safety habit you never skip before starting your workday?

🚦 Smart Infrastructure in Action

Toronto’s activation of AI-powered traffic signals at 135 intersections is a great example of how technology is helping cities manage congestion and improve mobility in real time.

Metro Infrastructure is proud to have supported this initiative by installing the infrastructure that enables these advanced systems. Projects like this highlight the impact of smart infrastructure and the role it plays in building more efficient, connected cities.

We look forward to continuing to support Toronto and other major cities across Canada as they invest in innovative solutions that improve transportation and keep communities moving.

As cities continue to adopt smarter infrastructure, what do you think is the next big innovation that will transform how we move through our communities?

Toronto just activated AI-powered traffic signals at 135 intersections across the city to tackle gridlock in real time. The system uses data from cameras and sensors to adjust light timing dynamically, aiming to reduce congestion, improve travel times, and ease pressure on major routes.

The rollout is part of a broader push toward smarter infrastructure, with priority given to high-traffic corridors and areas prone to bottlenecks. Officials say the tech can respond instantly to changing conditions — from rush hour surges to unexpected delays.

The move builds on earlier smart signal pilots, but this marks one of the city’s largest deployments of AI-driven traffic control so far.

🕵️‍♂️ Case Closed: Mystery Monday

The answer is… Portable Safety Barriers 🚧

These may look simple, but they play a critical role in every job site. Portable safety barriers help create clear, protected work zones—keeping crews safe while guiding traffic and pedestrians away from potential hazards.

From quick setups to high-risk environments, they’re essential when work is happening near live traffic, open excavations, or active equipment.

At Metro Infrastructure, safety is always front and centre—and tools like these help ensure everyone gets home safely at the end of the day.
