For all the negativity about how I cut compressors out with a saw. Here's a compressor where both suction and discharge pipes are vertical into the compressor.
For this change out I cut the discharge line and oil return line from the suction to relieve any built up pressure. There wasn't enough space on the suction line to cut and add a coupling, so with a heavy nitrogen purge I sweat out the suction pipe before swapping the compressor. I bent and cut a new piece of 1/2" for the discharge line, added couplings and brazed the new compressor in also with a nitrogen purge flowing.
