Another transformation completed for one of our wonderful repeat customers!

This was our third project at their home, and we truly appreciate the continued trust they have placed in Lyttle’s Masonry.

The existing porch foundation had extensive cracking, deteriorated masonry, and areas where the original brickwork had begun to fail. Simply applying new parging over broken and unstable brick would only hide the damage.. it would not correct the underlying problem, and the new finish would eventually crack and fail as well.

Our crew removed the compromised material, properly rebuilt the damaged section using concrete block, and then applied a fresh parging finish to create a clean, consistent appearance while helping protect the newly repaired masonry.

A lasting repair always starts with a solid foundation underneath.

These homeowners were experiencing water infiltration into the cold cellar beneath their front entrance, so we excavated around the structure to address the issue properly from the exterior.

After cleaning and preparing the foundation, we applied Blueskin primer, installed a continuous Blueskin waterproofing membrane and covered it with protective dimple board. Big O drainage pipe was installed in clear stone and wrapped with filter cloth to help collect and redirect water while preventing soil from clogging the drainage system.

The original flagstone was carefully removed, preserved and reset, with polymeric sand installed throughout the surface joints. A new custom railing will also be installed, and we will be returning at a later date to complete the remaining walkway restoration.

Most of the important work is now hidden below grade, but the completed system is designed to help prevent water from entering the cold cellar while preserving the original character of the home.

Old character meets a fresh new look 🧱✨

The homeowners were ready to give their front entrance a fresh new look and got things started by removing the existing wall themselves. From there, they called in Lyttle’s Masonry to bring their vision together.

We rebuilt the surrounding stonework, installed new limestone caps and stair treads, and finished the centre of the porch with Permacon landscaping stone.

While the goal was to give the entrance a noticeable update, we also wanted the new masonry to complement the age and character of the home. We matched the original joint style and used lime mortar throughout the natural stonework, helping tie the new work back into the existing masonry.

The result is a much cleaner, fresher entrance while still keeping some of the craftsmanship and character that makes this home unique.

This homeowner had been experiencing water getting into the house. After removing the interior drywall to investigate, they discovered that moisture had caused damage behind the wall and carpenter ants had made their way into the affected area.

That’s where we came in.

Our crew carefully removed the existing stone veneer to expose the wall behind it and allow the homeowner to complete the necessary repairs and reframing. Once the structure was repaired and ready for us, we returned to properly prepare the exterior with a new weather-resistant barrier and reinstall the stone. We were able to reuse the existing stone, maintaining the original look of the home while giving the repaired wall a fresh start and proper protection behind the masonry.

Sometimes what looks perfectly fine from the outside can be hiding a much bigger issue underneath. These photos are a great example of why addressing water infiltration early is so important!

After the homeowners had a smaller window installed, we were brought in to rebuild the remaining opening and blend the new work with the existing stonework as closely as possible.

To achieve the best match, we carefully removed stone from along the bottom of the home and reused it to rebuild the area beneath the new window. The original stone sills were also carefully removed and reused beneath the new window.

The lower section was then rebuilt with concrete block and finished with new parging, creating a clean and consistent foundation line.

A great example of how existing materials can be carefully reused to maintain the original character of a home while accommodating a new design. We’re really happy with how this one came together! 🧱

Now THAT is a chimney transformation! 🧱🔥

This chimney was in extremely poor condition, with heavily deteriorated masonry and several previous patch repairs. The base also had no proper chimney flashing, only tar had been used around the chimney where it met the roof.

Our crew completed a full masonry rebuild, transforming the chimney from the condition you see in the before photos to a solid, clean new structure. Our trusted roofer installed new chimney flashing to properly finish and protect the base of the chimney.

Quite the before and after! 👏

This garage column was struck by a vehicle, causing the brick veneer to separate from the garage. Once we began carefully dismantling the damaged section, we discovered that only one wall tie had been installed to secure the entire veneer back to the structure.

We carefully dismantled the damaged brickwork, salvaged the existing bricks where possible, installed new wall ties at the proper spacing, and rebuilt the column to restore its structural integrity while matching the existing masonry.

The result is a structurally sound repair that blends seamlessly with the existing brickwork.

If your brickwork has been damaged by impact or you've noticed cracking, bulging, or separation, it's important to have it inspected before the problem gets worse.

This project involved repairing and re-parging multiple foundation walls and the front steps of the home. Over time, the existing parging had developed deep cavities, holes, cracks, and failing sections that were allowing moisture to pe*****te and causing the finish to deteriorate.

Our crew removed all loose and unsound material, repaired and filled the deep voids and damaged areas, properly prepared the surfaces, and applied fresh parge to create a clean, uniform appearance throughout. The result is a much cleaner, more uniform finish that not only improves the appearance of the home but also helps protect the foundation from further deterioration and moisture intrusion.

This is just phase one of the project, and we're excited to be returning this fall to continue work on this beautiful home and complete the next stage of its restoration.

Freshened up this foundation with some new parging.

This foundation had areas of deteriorated and failing parging that needed to be removed and properly repaired. After prepping the surface, we applied a fresh coat of premium parging to restore the appearance of the foundation. A simple repair that makes a huge difference in the overall look of the home!
