⛔ Why the "Big Melt" is a threat to your basement. ⛔
With the rain and warm temperatures hitting our neighborhoods this week, we’re about to see a massive snow melt.
Take a look at this diagram. It shows exactly why basements across our region flood this time of year: Hydrostatic Pressure.
When the snow melts on top of frozen ground, the water can’t soak in deep. Instead, it saturates the soil directly against your foundation. This creates thousands of pounds of pressure that forces water through:
Hairline cracks you didn't know were there.
The joint where your wall meets the floor.
Window wells and clogged drainage systems.
🛠️ What you can do right now (Free Expert Advice):
Extend your downspouts: Make sure they are discharging at least 6 feet away from your foundation.
Clear the perimeter: Shovel a 3-foot path of snow away from your house walls.
Check the Sump: If you have one, pour a bucket of water in to ensure it's pumping before the rain starts.
