As winter settles in, you might notice something alarming: icicles hanging from your roof or ice damming at your eavestroughs. But what causes these ice build-ups, and how can you prevent them?

🔍 Here’s the Science Behind It:

When your roof isn’t properly insulated or ventilated, the heat from your home can escape and warm up the roof’s surface. This causes snow to melt on top, and the meltwater runs down toward the eavestroughs. But if your soffit/overhang are too cold (often due to poor ventilation or blockages), the water refreezes, creating ice dams or icicles.

Over time, ice dams can prevent water from draining properly, leading to potential leaks inside your home!
