Not quite ready to say goodbye to the flowers yet…

I feel like you can learn a lot about a person by looking at their bookshelf. I’ve filled this shelf with books I’ve read or would like to inspire myself to read by seeing them often.

I feel like fall is a good time to cozy in and enjoy the indoor hobbies and dream of next year’s summer plans.

So, on my bookshelf, you’ll find:

Villager Puzzles | Kelly | Support Women Artists - beautiful puzzles made with art by Canadian women. I’ve been collecting these as they come up on Marketplace.

Cobble Hill Puzzles - Also, so beautiful!

Gardening books - Erin Benzakein - Floret , Lois Hole books (great for local information, the Gardening Journal by Lee Valley - If I see it, may be I’ll remember to actually use it 😬

Practicing the Way - This book is a great perspective on Christianity and a very balanced approach to living daily life.

Hiking books - My absolute favourite for backpacking trips is the “Don’t Waste Your Time in the Canadian Rockies” and for hiking with kids, I love the book by Annika B Mang |AdventureTravel

magnolia Journal magazine - It is beautiful and inspiring for all things human, home, garden, etc.

I’ve also added some fiction books to hopefully get me reading this fall - Anne of Green Gables, Chronicles of Narnia, Karen Kingsbury books, etc.

The Bible - different versions - I’m in a small group with some ladies this year studying Genesis with Jen Wilkin . I’m excited to dive in and may be even compare some translations to increase my understanding.

I think we are a lot like plants. If we feed ourselves with good soil, fertilizer, water, and sunshine, hopefully we will grow into better humans each day. Even better, if we surround ourselves with a supportive, loving community, it’s like growing in a greenhouse.

So thankful for our church community Trinity Baptist Church right now and all the other friends, family and coworkers who encourage me each day.

Do you have any recommendations? If you’re just starting out gardening and wish you had a green thumb, the good news is that you can learn to have a green thumb. It’s not just handed out at birth or not.

We’ve reached the time of year where I am looking at what flowers I can harvest for drying. This is the best way to be able to enjoy these beauties all year long!

This year, I’m inspired by Erin Benzakein - Floret and experimenting with many different things that I may not have initially thought of.

I can’t wait to see how this Russian Sage does! I’m hoping it will look amazing so I can use it for the Seen Ministry fundraiser in October!

My tried and true favourites for drying are:

-Statice (Harvest when fully open. They hold their colour so well!)
-Strawflowers (harvest preferably when partially open, before you can see the yellow center. They also hold their colour perfectly!)
-Craspedia - the yellow balls (These look perfect when dried!)
-Lavender

Things I’m trying for the first time:
-Grasses - I collected some of my tall grasses this year since the snow just flattens them in my front yard
-Scabiosa seed heads (may be they’ll look cute? 🤷‍♀️)
-Nigella seed pods
-Echinacea
-Russian Sage

Hang the flowers to dry preferably in a dark, dry place to avoid colour fading, but also, you can just hang them where you can see and enjoy them! 🤷‍♀️🥰
