Even the best plans cannot account for every possible obstacle, and the effort required to overcome them is often not seen in the final result. Whether we were losing five days to heavy rain that flooded our foundation, digging around incorrectly mapped utility lines, correcting and supporting a sagging roof, removing two layers of decking, or jackhammering through stubborn concrete, adapting and patience was key. We can't always anticipate every challenge, but staying flexible makes the hidden hard work entirely worth the final product.

Happy Canada Day! 🇨🇦

I thoroughly enjoy installing this style of fence. When it comes to wood fencing, nothing beats a 6" × 6" post. It also allows for more unique and attractive designs, such as these 100% privacy board-and-batten panels: a great alternative to traditional shadowbox (friendly neighbour) panels.

With this style, the bright metallic fence clips can be skipped in favour of a different fastening method for the framing. From inside the yard, you can't see any screws, giving it a really clean, seamless look.

What was once a front porch that was deteriorating from some very old and questionable framing decisions, is now a sturdy and sleek design.

Nuvo Iron has an awesome new product: powder coated black aluminum deck post skirts. These are superior to all of the other ones around therefore we'll never go back to using plastic skirts! They finish much better, are way more durable, and installation is easier.

Have you ever wondered what the "& Design" portion of the business name is for? Well, that's exactly it. We don't just build it; we can draw and design it first, and prepare it for a permit application.

Not every contractor knows when or how to acquire a permit for your project. It can be daunting, and it's a way some companies cut costs, but the pros of a permit outweigh the cons:

📏 Adds to your MPAC if you ever decide to refinance or sell your home. It makes home inspection and home sales easier.
🪏 You will have official plans that are accessible from the local Building Department if you ever need them. As the homeowner, before any construction begins, you will be able to review and check for any discrepancies between the drawing and what you wanted to build.
🪚 Holds the contractor accountable to Ontario Building Code standards. It is considered a safer structure because it's officially constructed to the OBC.
🔨 No risk of getting fined, receiving a stop-work order, and/or facing legal issues from not acquiring a permit.
🏡 Insurance coverage. In the case of a fire, for example, your insurance may cover this structure.

So, next time you're thinking of building a project, ask your contractor or local building department, "Do I need a permit?" If so, come see us!

Are you in your forever home but your deck is falling apart? Consider going with a composite material as it can last up to twice the life of pressure treated or cedar material.

-Maintenance free (no staining, sealing or painting)
-Many colour choices and grain patterns
-Durability (resists mold, rot, termites, and fading)
-Long term value

This deck maximized the allowable square footage on the lot for an accessory building at 26'×14'! The customer chose the highly recommended Trex Transcend Rope Swing as their main and stair decking colour. The picture frame, border, and skirt uses a more economical line, Trex Enhance Toasted Sand. Regal Ideas black powder coated aluminum railings were installed to continue the maintenance free trend. There's more than enough space on the deck to host, play, and relax. Even underneath the deck can be used for additional storage.

Since September we've been renovating two entire homes side by side from the 50s-60s, restarting from the studs on. Now that they're completely finished their renovations, each of their bathrooms are the best to show off for comparison to the original, and for the future posts to come.

During the renovation, we discovered that these bathrooms had major challenges and problems that had to be overcome such as:
-1 billion rusted nails in the subfloor and studs
-Rotted underlayment and subfloor
-Rotted exterior wall and rotted and closed-in window
-Squirrel nests in floor joists cavity
-No exterior wall framing/insulation
-Clogged main drains
-Missing/removed/destroyed floor joists
-And of course nothing original was level

These issues were a hint of things to come. Hopefully, you can see that we succeeded in correcting all these issues and some!

It doesn't look it outside, but spring is around the corner and the calendar is quickly filling up!

Here's a nice fence and deck combo we did at separate times in the summer. The rain really brings out the wood grain colour and does well in photos.
