What’s Right for Your Project? Unnetted or Biodegradable Reinforced Turf

At Western Turf Farms, we know every project is different. That’s why we offer both Premium Unnetted Turf and Biodegradable Reinforced Turf, giving our customers the flexibility to choose the product that best suits their needs.

Our Premium Unnetted Turf is ideal for homeowners, sports fields, parks, and boulevards looking for a completely natural root system. With no reinforcement material, roots establish directly into the soil, creating a strong, healthy lawn from the ground up.

For projects requiring additional strength during harvest, transportation, and installation, our Biodegradable Reinforced Turf provides enhanced durability while supporting successful establishment. The biodegradable reinforcement naturally breaks down over time, making it an excellent choice for municipal, commercial, and high-traffic applications.

Whether you’re building a championship sports field, upgrading a boulevard, or creating the backyard you’ve always wanted, Western Turf Farms has the right turf solution for your project.

Your lawn. Your choice. Premium Unnetted or Biodegradable Reinforced Turf.

Surrey is doing what more cities in Metro Vancouver should be doing asking questions using common sense and making decisions based on local facts not blanket panic rules from Metro Vancouver.

Metro Vancouver jumped into Stage 3 restrictions on June 8, banning lawn watering, stopping new lawn permits cutting off sprinklers for trees and gardens, restricting pool top ups car washing, and more. Their reasoning is dry weather low snowpack high summer demand and the Stanley Park Water Supply Tunnel work taking one major crossing offline.

But here’s the real issue: why are residents businesses landscapers farmers sports fields, and families being punished for poor planning and weak infrastructure management? Surrey updated its bylaw to allow more flexibility special sprinkling permits small pool top ups cooling measures and local decision making while still protecting essential water supply.

We need more cities to stand up and tell Metro Vancouver that conservation matters but decisions need to be based on facts fairness infrastructure planning, and real world impacts not one size fits all restrictions that hurt businesses kill landscapes damage green spaces and ignore smarter options like permits irrigation audits rainwater capture greywater use and proper education.

Surrey is showing there is another way. More cities need to follow.

As the sun rises over this beautiful field, it’s a reminder that grass is far more than just something green to look at. Living grass is one of nature’s hardest-working resources, helping cool our communities, improve air quality, manage rainwater, support wildlife, and provide a calming environment that benefits our mental well-being. Standing in a field like this on a quiet morning, watching the first light spread across the landscape, you can appreciate the value that healthy green spaces bring to our lives every single day.

5 Facts About Grass and Why It Matters:

• Fact #1: Grass naturally cools the environment, often staying much cooler than asphalt, concrete, and artificial turf.

• Fact #2: Healthy grass helps improve air quality by trapping dust and airborne particles while producing oxygen.

• Fact #3: A well-established lawn absorbs rainwater, reducing runoff, erosion, and pressure on stormwater systems.

• Fact #4: Studies show that spending time around green spaces can reduce stress, improve mood, and support mental health.

• Fact #5: Grass provides habitat for beneficial insects, birds, soil organisms, and other wildlife that support healthy ecosystems.

Laying sod? Here's our cheat sheet!

👉 Start by preparing the soil: remove debris such as rocks and weeds. Level the soil and if necessary, add topsoil.

👉 Lay the sod, starting at one edge of the lawn and laying the sod in a staggered pattern, similar to how bricks are laid. Ensure that the pieces have no gaps between them.

👉 Water the soil immediately upon installation and then roll the sod with a sod-roller. This will help roots come into better contact with the soil while also removing air pockets.

Something doesn’t add up.

Metro Vancouver tells residents and businesses there’s a water shortage. We’re told to use less water, stop watering landscapes, limit irrigation, and prepare for tighter restrictions every summer.

At the same time, billions of dollars are being spent on expanding wastewater treatment capacity.

So here’s a fair question:

If the region’s future is one of chronic water shortages and everyone is expected to use less water, what wastewater volumes are these massive treatment facilities being designed to handle?

Shouldn’t the first priority be securing new water sources, increasing reservoir capacity, capturing more rainwater, reducing system losses, and planning for population growth?

Why are we talking about restricting water use before we’ve fully explored expanding water supply infrastructure?

No one is arguing against protecting the environment or treating wastewater properly. Those systems are essential. But taxpayers deserve to know why the region appears focused on spending billions downstream while telling the public there isn’t enough water upstream.

Wouldn’t it make more sense to build a long-term water strategy that includes storage, supply, conservation, and treatment working together instead of relying on restrictions as the primary solution?

Metro Vancouver residents deserve answers, transparency, and a plan that looks decades ahead—not one that constantly reacts to the next crisis.

Every detail matters on game day ⚽

Grounds crews spend countless hours maintaining stadium grass because the quality of the playing surface affects everything - from ball movement to player comfort.

The same principle applies at home. A healthy, dense lawn is beautiful AND functional.

That's why we're passionate about growing premium sod that's built to perform.

Think real grass. Think sod. Think Western Turf Farms.
