Therefore, selecting healthy scion wood is essential to increase the success of grafting and ensure optimal plant growth.

Characteristics of healthy scion wood include:
1. Comes from a healthy and productive mother plant.
2. Is free from pests and diseases.
3. Has healthy and clearly visible buds.
4. Is sufficiently mature—not too young or too old.
5. Has bark that is free from damage, wounds, or rot.
6. Has a normal color and texture and is not wilted or dried out.
