A CHEAPER REFRIGERATOR TECHNICIAN CAN BECOME AN EXPENSIVE DECISION.

Saving $50 on a service call sounds good.

Until the wrong diagnosis starts costing you hundreds.

An inexperienced technician may:

❄️ Replace parts that were never bad
❄️ Add refrigerant without finding the leak
❄️ Change a compressor when the real problem is elsewhere
❄️ Guess instead of properly testing components
❄️ Create new problems while trying to fix the original one
❄️ Make you pay for multiple visits for the same issue

Example:

You spend $100 on the first repair.

The refrigerator still isn’t cooling.

This is what a FAILED defrost system looks like.

Mr. Ingraham called us after his refrigerator stopped cooling properly.

Our diagnosis found a failed heating element, causing the evaporator to become buried in ice.

Ice builds → airflow drops → fridge gets warm.

Melting the ice is temporary. Finding what caused it is the real repair.

“It just needs to GAS UP.”

We hear that all the time.

This LG refrigerator came to us with no cooling. At first glance, the black mess around the compressor looked alarming.

That isn’t the compressor melting.

It’s compressor oil that leaked out along with the refrigerant after the compressor failed.

After carrying out a complete sealed system diagnosis, we confirmed the compressor was the problem. We replaced it, installed a new filter drier, pressure-tested the system with nitrogen, pulled a deep vacuum, and recharged it with the exact factory refrigerant charge.

Now it’s back to cooling exactly as it should.

At Cold Masters, we don’t shy away from high-end brands like LG, Samsung, Bosch, KitchenAid, and other sealed system repairs that many technicians won’t touch.

The difference isn’t adding refrigerant. It’s finding the real problem and fixing it properly the first time.

Adding refrigerant would have fixed this refrigerator…

For about a week.

The customer, Mr. Miller, called because his Frigidaire had stopped cooling and he thought it might be time for a replacement.

After carrying out a full sealed system diagnosis, I confirmed the problem wasn’t the compressor.

The system had lost refrigerant because of a leak hidden in the Yoder loop.

The Yoder loop is tubing built into the cabinet that helps prevent condensation around the doors. Once it develops a leak, refrigerant slowly escapes until the refrigerator can no longer cool.

To restore the refrigerator, I:

• Recovered the remaining refrigerant.
• Cut out and bypassed the leaking Yoder loop.
• Installed a new filter drier.
• Pressure-tested the sealed system.
• Pulled a deep vacuum to remove air and moisture.
• Recharged the system with the factory-specified refrigerant charge.

After final testing, the refrigerator was back to normal operating temperatures and performing as it should.

This is why I never recommend simply “adding gas.”

If the leak isn’t repaired, the refrigerant will escape again. The real repair is finding the source of the leak and correcting it properly.
