🕯️🚔 **A SIMPLE CALL FOR SERVICE TURNED INTO AN UNIMAGINABLE LOSS.** 🚔🕯️

On the night of December 29, 2021, Sergeant Marlene Rittmanic responded to a motel in Bradley, Illinois, to investigate complaints of barking dogs left unattended in a vehicle.

It was the type of call officers respond to every day.

But during the investigation, Sergeant Rittmanic and her partner were met with violence. Both officers were shot while carrying out their duties.

Despite the efforts of emergency personnel and hospital staff, Sergeant Rittmanic died from her injuries shortly after midnight.

Her partner survived after suffering a gunshot wound to the forehead, but the devastating injuries forced him into medical retirement.

The suspects fled the scene, leading authorities on a multi-state manhunt before they were captured approximately 36 hours later. One suspect was later convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison.
