Another Morning Glory Transformation! 🚀✨
Things are flying high at Morning Glory Balconies! We just wrapped up our second project over at Neon Apartments (right by The Station by Tsakiris), and what a beauty she turned out to be.

This behemoth was a massive 8 metres long by 1.6 metres deep—a real heavy-duty job!

🪵 The Challenge: 20 Years of Hardened Layers
Over two decades of "regular maintenance" meant layer upon layer of ancient paint and treatments. Some of it had baked in the mountain sun until it was practically like enamel! Stripping it back to bare, healthy wood took some serious muscle and elbow grease.

“How much does it cost?”

It’s the question we’re asked more than any other at Morning Glory Balconies.

Our answer?

“We need to see it first.”

Then… the photos arrive. 📸😄

The problem is, balconies don’t come with X-ray vision.

Unlike painting a wall, every balcony is different. Years of sun, rain, snow and frost all take their toll, and what’s hiding beneath the old paint can completely change the job.

This balcony is 8m long and, thankfully, the timber was still in good condition.

Even then it needed:

✔️ 2 days stripping old paint
✔️ 1 day sanding (80, 120 & 160 grit)
✔️ 2 days treating and painting

That’s 25-30 hours of dirty, dusty, back-breaking work.

Cost? €450 + materials.

The result? Another 5+ years of life.

A complete replacement?

€3,500-€4,500.

That’s why maintenance matters.

Leave it another year and water gets in. Timber starts to rot. What was a few hundred euros becomes a few thousand.

Maintenance is cheap. Neglect is expensive.

✨ From Tired and Weather-Beaten to Balcony Brilliance! ✨

Here's a recent transformation completed by Morning Glory Balconies on a large double balcony in Bansko.

As you can see from the first photograph, years of exposure to the mountain weather had left the timber looking worn, faded and neglected. But beneath all that was beautiful wood just waiting to be brought back to life.

🔨 The restoration process included:
• Stripping the balcony right back to bare wood using wire brushes and professional sanding techniques
• Carefully sanding the timber to create a smooth, high-quality finish
• Applying a protective undercoat
• Finishing with two durable top coats for long-lasting protection and a stunning appearance

The result? A balcony that not only looks fantastic but is also protected against the elements for years to come.

There have been so many stages to this project, I’ve lost track 🤣

Old recovered/recycled roof beams now in situ as garden border. Geotextile w**d membrane cut, pinned down and secured.

Just need the aggregate/stones to go on top next Tuesday and then the raises planters can positioned 😀

We are indeed versatile at Morning Glory Balconies! 😜

Recovered some very old and tired c6m long roof beams, cleaned them up, sanded down and treated them with a good weatherproofing.

Cut them to size to make them more manageable and minimise waste.

They’re going to be the garden edge/border once the geotextile anti-w**d membrane goes down tomorrow.

Took ages to compact the garden soil by hand with boards and a tamper, some more rain 🌧️ tonight will hopefully settle it some more.

Than early next week, aggregate/gravel on top and then position the raised vegetable planters built last week.

We are holding a social event on Friday July 24th, starting at 7pm. This is an opportunity for you to meet others and create contacts. How many times have you been asked "Where can I find someone to install my washing machine?", or " Who can repair my Balcony?". Now, you can meet exactly these people and more in a relaxed, sociable atmosphere. As the old saying goes ; "It's not what you know, but who you know". Everybody is welcome.
