Last week in Vienna, hundreds of professionals from across Europe and beyond gathered for the EAPA Warm Mix Asphalt Workshop and E&E Event 2026.

Over three days, the discussions focused on some of the most important topics facing our industry today: decarbonisation, circularity, health and safety, emissions, innovation, future materials and the roads of tomorrow.

Beyond the technical sessions, the week was also about meeting people, sharing experiences and having the conversations that help move our industry forward.

What will shape the roads of the future?

That question was at the centre of today's discussions at the E&E Event 2026.

From the outlook for European bitumen supply and demand to the potential of biobased materials, speakers explored how our industry is preparing for the decades ahead. The session also highlighted the important role of public leadership in the sustainability transition and examined the wider trends influencing road construction and mobility across Europe.

While the future may bring new challenges, today's discussions demonstrated that innovation, long-term thinking and collaboration remain key drivers of progress.

This morning's discussions highlighted how closely health, safety and emissions management are connected.

This E&E Event 2026 session brought together perspectives on managing emissions on paving sites, understanding emissions from asphalt pavements and addressing odour management at asphalt plants.

A common theme throughout the discussions was the importance of combining research, practical experience and industry action to support safer and more sustainable operations across the asphalt value chain.

Decarbonisation remains one of the defining challenges for our industry.
Today's discussions explored different perspectives from the aggregates, bitumen and asphalt sectors, highlighting both the progress already being made and the work still ahead.
While pathways may differ, the direction is clear: reducing emissions and building more sustainable infrastructure will continue to shape the future of road construction.

One of the highlights of today was seeing the official launch of Women in Asphalt Europe become a reality.

What started as conversations between a small group of volunteers has grown into a European initiative bringing together women from across the asphalt and bitumen community. Seeing so many people in the room supporting the launch showed just how much interest and commitment there is across our industry.

This is only the beginning, but it is an important step towards creating more visibility, stronger connections and new opportunities for women across our industry.

This morning, the EAPA Warm Mix Asphalt Workshop 2026 came to a close after two days of inspiring conversations, practical insights and valuable exchanges between industry experts from across Europe. It was encouraging to see so many different perspectives brought together around a shared goal: increasing the adoption of Warm Mix Asphalt and supporting a more sustainable future for our roads.

Today, experts from across Europe have gathered in Vienna for the EAPA Warm Mix Asphalt Workshop and E&E Event 2026.

We are beginning our WMA workshop, it’s a full room! For more than 25 years, Warm Mix Asphalt has been helping the industry reduce production temperatures, energy consumption and emissions. Now, as adoption continues to grow, this workshop provides an opportunity to share experiences, discuss challenges and identify the next steps towards wider implementation across Europe.
