1,100 kg of steel in just 90 sq ft. And it's built to be made again and again.

This Security Post is one of my recent Tekla projects, detailed for mass production. The main goal was simple: keep it symmetrical so the part marks repeat.

What I focused on:
1. Mirrored the layout on all sides, so the same parts and part marks repeat across the whole structure
2. Fewer unique parts, which means fewer drawings, faster cutting, and less chance of mix-ups in the shop
3. A ridge connection for the roof that's easy to fabricate and quick to bolt up on site
4. Stair, landing, and guardrail kept simple for fast er****on
5. Base plates and anchors are repeated for every column

When you're making dozens of units, every unique part costs time in the shop. Repeating parts is where you save it.

Fabricators, when you get a repeat order like this, do you prefer fully identical units, or a few mirrored (left/right) parts to make er****on easier?

30 tonnes of steel. 3,800 sq ft. And not one straight rafter.

A curved-rafter shed I modelled and detailed in Tekla Structures. Portal bracing at the eaves, X-bracing in the walls and roof, and an overhanging frame past the end columns.

Fabricators, how do you prefer to splice a curved rafter: one rolled piece, or segments with bolted splices?

If you need detailed PEB or curved-rafter work, DM me.

This stair is already up on site. 1,668 kg of steel.

A closer look at the steel behind a poolside restaurant shed.

This project from my portfolio features a single-storey PEB structure beside a resort swimming pool in Bangladesh.

• Steel weight: 17 tonnes
• Area: approximately 385 m²
• Software: Tekla Structures 2025
• Scope: main structural steelwork

The images take you through the roofed model, exposed steel frame, and 3D drawing view. The architectural reference render shows the intended setting.

For me, steel detailing is about making information useful for the people who fabricate and erect the structure—from connection clarity to member orientation and bolt access.

Browse the images to see how the steelwork fits together.

3 CLASHES I CHECK BEFORE RELEASING A STEEL MODEL

A clash-free Tekla model does not always mean it is ready for fabrication.
Before I release a steel model, I don't only check if two parts are touching each other.

I also check:

Hard clashes
Steel vs steel, brace vs fl**ge brace, bolts vs members.

Tool access
A bolt may fit in the model, but can the worker get a wrench there?

Er****on access
Can the member actually move into position and be bolted on site?

These small checks can prevent difficult fabrication and er****on problems later.

For me, good steel detailing is not only about making the model clash-free. It should also be practical for the shop and site.

What type of clash do you find most often in your steel projects?

Stairs look easy in 3D, but they are one of the trickiest parts of steel detailing! 🏗️

Stringer connections, tread spacing, handrail posts — everything must be checked before shop drawings go out.

One wrong level = big problems on site.

How does your team install stairs — shop-assembled or bolted on site? Comment below! 👇

Clean 3D models are great, but site workers need real clearance! 🏗️🔧

When detailing heavy pipe bracing in Tekla Structures, I always check if the site team can fit their wrench comfortably.

3 things we checked here:

Bolt access clearance
Gusset plate fit-up
Clean er****on direction
Zero site issues = Happy fabricator and faster er****on.

What do you check first when detailing heavy connections? Let me know in the comments! 👇

Some structures look elegant only after the hard part is solved.

This curved overhanging platform challenged me with tight geometry, grating fit, handrail flow, and clean connection detailing — all within a 1,360 kg assembly.

Using Tekla Structures, I turned that complexity into a clear, coordinated, fabrication-ready model.

This is the part of steel detailing I enjoy most:
solving what others only see as “a curved platform.
