Amid the hustling neighborhood of Dhanmondi, Zen emerges as a space for your nomadic mind. The foundation of the design is anchored in natural elements, with a palette that mirrors the bohemian lifestyle of the coastal landscape. Slated pathways, carved stones, sails waving against the breeze, local rattan craftsmanship, gradients of greenery, and blue hues of the waves hitting shore are part of the artsy spirit of Zen.
The restaurant is designed in multiple zones, each in its unique character and dining experience. However, the open plan allows uninterrupted space flow to ensure the breathability of the restaurant. The glass facade of the site overlooking the outdoor foliage gives the impression of dining outdoors, even when seated inside. This effect is enhanced by the addition of the lush greeneries through out the space. The core of Zen introduces a large Ficus ginseng bonsai surrounding which the seating spaces are organized. The different seating zones highlight the use of textured walls, marble mosaic, rattan and rope weaving, wood, woven, and tie-dyed textiles. Each of the design elements created an opportunity to collaborate with different local craftsmen and artisans, with whom we co-created custom-made pieces for the restaurant.
The interior is a testament to the seamless integration of local materials and the skilled craftsmanship of artisans, resulting in a space that feels both rooted in its surroundings and globally inspired.
