What if? ⏳
We are thinking of starting a small series on this page called “What If?” alongside our regular project updates and uploads.
This thought came while revisiting one of our old competition submissions — “Flexible Retreat”.
The brief was to design a modular holiday cabin that could be placed anywhere in Bangladesh. A pod that could belong to the seaside, the hills, the forest, the wetlands, or even the middle of a city.
Our proposal was something the jurors loved — but something we loved even more.
A lightweight retreat raised gently off the ground on slender legs, wrapped in layers of jute ropes — creating a skin that could shift and respond to context. Wherever the best view existed, the ropes would open up and create framed vistas while still maintaining privacy around the rest of the pod. A living envelope, almost breathing with its surroundings.
Before submission, we explored the form from almost every possible exterior angle. But never explored, to the depth we truly wanted, what it would feel like from inside.
The competition ended. The project stopped there. Another idea quietly archived away.
Today, out of curiosity, we outsourced that missing imagination to AI.
And on the very first try, this image appeared.
Suddenly the project felt alive again.
It made us want to revisit every dead-in-the-water proposal, every stalled construction, every unfinished sketch, every idea that never made it past the moodboard — and spend a few moments wondering…
