Theme:
“Give Our Planet One Day Off a Year”

Call To Action:
Zero Emissions Day is an opportunity to reflect on how our dependence on fossil fuels affects the climate, environment and communities. A single day cannot solve the climate crisis, but it can demonstrate that individual and collective choices can reduce unnecessary emissions and encourage more sustainable systems.

On Zero Emissions Day, CEHRDF calls upon individuals, communities, institutions and businesses to reduce unnecessary fossil fuel consumption, conserve energy, choose walking, cycling or public transport where possible, switch off non-essential energy use and promote renewable energy solutions.

Give our planet one day off.
Then turn one day of action into a year of change.

Zero Emissions Day, commonly known as ZeDay, is observed annually on 21 September. The initiative encourages people to consider the environmental consequences of fossil fuel dependence and to reduce or avoid unnecessary emissions for a day.

The central idea is to use one day as a practical demonstration and reflection point, encouraging longer-term changes in energy consumption, transportation and everyday environmental behaviour.

History:

Zero Emissions Day is observed annually on 21 September and is associated with the call to give the planet a day off from unnecessary emissions. The initiative encourages individuals, communities and organizations to examine their dependence on fossil fuels and demonstrate practical ways of reducing emissions.

The day is intended not merely as a 24-hour symbolic action, but as an opportunity to encourage lasting changes in energy use, mobility and environmental responsibility.

Chief Executive's Speech:

“Zero emissions should not be understood as a one-day activity. It is a long-term transition. Our daily decisions about energy, transportation, production and consumption have consequences for the climate and the environment. One day gives us an opportunity to reflect on that relationship and demonstrate practical alternatives. Our goal should be to transform one symbolic day of action into climate-conscious behaviour throughout the year. Reducing fossil fuel dependence and investing in renewable energy, clean mobility and sustainable lifestyles are essential steps towards a more resilient future.”

“Development cannot be measured only through installed capacity, infrastructure or investment volumes. A truly sustainable development model must protect people, ecosystems, livelihoods and the public interest. Maheshkhali and Matarbari should not become examples where communities bear the social and environmental costs while the benefits and decision-making remain concentrated elsewhere. Every affected family deserves fair compensation, meaningful rehabilitation and a genuine opportunity to participate in decisions concerning their future.”

JUSTICE • RIGHTS • EQUITY • ACTION

The Global Climate Strike is a collective call for climate justice, human rights and a sustainable future for all.

Climate change is not only an environmental crisis, it is a crisis of justice, equity, livelihoods and human dignity. Communities that have contributed least to global emissions are often among those facing the greatest impacts. Climate action must therefore place people, rights and fairness at the centre of the transition.

🌱 Mitigate the Climate Crisis — accelerate ambitious emissions reductions and protect ecosystems.
☀️ Scale Renewable Energy — advance clean, affordable and accessible energy for all.
🤝 Ensure a Just Transition — protect workers, communities and vulnerable groups as economies move beyond fossil fuels.
🌊 Strengthen Adaptation — invest in resilient communities, infrastructure, livelihoods and nature-based solutions.
⚖️ Advance Climate Justice & Equity — uphold human rights, intergenerational equity and meaningful participation in decision-making.
🌍 Build a Sustainable Future — ensure that no community and no generation is left behind.

Our message is clear: climate action must be faster, fairer and rooted in justice.
From local communities to the global stage, every voice matters, every action counts, and every generation has a right to a safe, healthy and sustainable planet.

CEHRDF stands with the Global Climate Strike for climate justice, human rights, renewable energy, resilient communities and a truly just transition.

To protect vulnerable populations and uphold human dignity, we must translate ambition into concrete action.

Key Demands for Climate Action:
Honor the Paris Climate Agreement: Hold nations accountable to limit global warming to 1.5°C through enhanced Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and a rapid, fair transition away from fossil fuels.

Advance Climate Justice: Uphold human rights by ensuring climate finance, including the Loss and Damage Fund, reaches the frontline communities bearing the brunt of a crisis they did not create.

Build Climate Resilience: Invest in sustainable, community-led adaptation strategies, ecosystem restoration, and resilient infrastructure to safeguard lives and livelihoods against future climate shocks.
A clean, healthy, and sustainable environment is a universal human right. Silence is compliance; action is justice.

Take Action: Stand up, amplify frontline voices, and demand accountability from decision-makers today.

Climate change is not a threat of the future—it is a lived reality for millions of people across the world today. From devastating floods to severe droughts, the most vulnerable communities face the heaviest burden of climate impacts despite contributing the least to global emissions.

The Center for Executive Human Rights and Development Foundation (CEHRDF) stands in solidarity with youth, activists, and frontline communities worldwide to demand urgent, equitable, and decisive climate action.
Human rights are fundamentally linked to climate justice. Every individual has the right to a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment.

We call on global leaders, decision-makers, and institutions to:

🌱 Accelerate transition to renewable energy and phase out fossil fuels.
🛡️ Protect and empower climate-vulnerable communities and human rights defenders.
💰 Deliver on climate finance and Loss & Damage commitments for developing nations.
⚖️ Ensure Intergenerational Equity by centering youth voices in policy decisions.
Silence is compliance. Action is justice.

Get Involved: Stand up, speak out, and amplify the movement in your community.

: IS

The climate crisis is no longer a distant threat—it is an unprecedented global emergency impacting frontline communities, ecosystems, and future generations every single day.
For this year’s Global Climate Strike, CEHRDF joins civil society, youth leaders, and international partners to demand immediate, bold, and accountable climate action aligned with UN frameworks and the goals of the .

We call on global decision-makers to prioritize:
Urgent Phased Transition to Renewable Energy: Accelerate clean energy adoption to phase out fossil fuels and keep the 1.5°C warming threshold within reach.
A Just Transition for All: Protect workers, indigenous groups, and vulnerable communities by ensuring equitable access to green jobs and economic resilience.
Scalable & Equitable Climate Finance: Mobilize new, grant-based financing to fulfill global commitments for adaptation, mitigation, and Loss and Damage.

Enhanced Climate Transparency & Accountability: Ensure all national commitments (NDCs) are measurable, accessible, and rigidly tracked to turn promises into concrete action.

Justice delayed is justice denied. We must bridge the gap between policy and practice to build a secure, sustainable world.
