Ohayou gozaimasu! ๐Ÿค—

Situation:

Forward Port Side Bilge Well HAL (High Alarm Level) Sensor not working! ๐Ÿ˜…

Preliminary Action:
Chikushou! No good design pangyao ah! ๐Ÿ˜…)
-Linis ng stem ng sensor then up and down yung float pero no alarm pa din

Main Troubleshooting:
Ikemasu! ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธโ€โžก๏ธ
-Tested the Cables going in the sensor 8.9 volts lang. Hmmm... around 24 Volts dapat to ah. ๐Ÿค”
PLC 3 in this case ay yung SAU 03. Nasa isang Electrical Cabinet siya sa Engine Room Named Signal Acquisition Unit 03. Lyngso Marine nga pala ang AMS (Alarm Monitoring System) namin.
-Pinuntahan ko na ang SAU 03 Cabinet and located the terminals for the Forward Port Side Bilge Well at pagka disconnect ko ng cables nag alarm agad. Pumunta din muna ako sa AMS para i-simulate to off ang status ng sensor para hindi alarm ng alarm.
-I tested this BIM2200 Terminals (Sugoi English! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ) at may 24V itong output so ibig sabihin somewhere pababa sa sensor ay maaring may grounding or putol kaya nababawasan ang voltage papunta sensor

Troubleshooting:

Tiningnan ko ang panel at ayon sa alarm from the HMI (Human Machine Interface) Panel "Discharge Pressure Too High Alarm"

At looks like may naiwan pa talagang high pressure sa linyada papuntang pressure switch.

Solution:

Pinihit ko clockwise ang screw ng cut out para mawala ang pagka cut-out ng pressure switch. Pag andar ng provision compressor the dischage pressure was normal at ibinalik ko na sa dating cut-out setting sa pagpihit ng screw counter clockwise.

P.S.:

Napatanong si 2/E what to do daw next time and I told him what I did. Napa thank you my friend siya sabay tanong what is my name. First time kasi namin magkasama.

Ohayou gozaimasu! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Situation:

One hour notice for arrival sa Harwich, U.K., tinawagan tayo ni 3rd Engineer. Hindi daw niya ma-excite ang Shaft Generator No. 2. Okay punta ako jan.
Shimatta!

Standard Operating Procedure:

At lahat halos ng gamit nila gumagamit ng Electricity kaya kailangan tayong mga Electrician/ETR/ETO to be on always on standby and be called to maintain and to repair if problem arises on its electrical parts, mainly its controls.

Main SOP:

Meron kaming 2 Shaft Generators at 2 Main Generators onboard.

1. Run Main Diesel Generators No. 1 & 2.
2. Shift all of the ship's electrical load from Shaft Generator No. 2, which is currently in-service, to the Main Generators No. 1 & 2.
3. Disconnect Shaft Generator No. 2 from the Main Switch Board.
4. Excite Shaft Generator No. 1 and Connect Forward Bow Thruster to Shaft Generator No. 1 as its Main Consumer.
5. Connect Aft Bow Thruster to to Shaft Generator No. 2 as its Main Consumer.

Note: Lahat ito ay ginagawa ng pa click click lang through the computer we commonly call Alarm & Monitoring System.
Kongsberg yung meron namin dito onboard.

Pagdating sa Engine Room:
Ang Duty Engineer this time is 3/E.

Troubleshooting:

Ikemasu! ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธโ€โžก๏ธ
Primary step ng troubleshooting is ask the operator ano yung sinusunod niyang procedure at paano niya paandarin ang machineries.
Ang tawag niya ay hindi ma-excite.
Na-eexcite naman pala pero kulang yung voltage para mag proceed to take loads.
Imbes na 400 V AC the Bus Voltage created by Shaft Generator No. 2 is only 301 to 302 Volts AC.
Nagpunta tayo sa Main Switch Board (MSB) on the Shaft Generator No. 2's Panel.

It is probably the AVR or the Rotating Diodes.
The Shaft Generator No. 2 Alternator is an AvK DSG 86 K1-4.

For the rotating diodes, alam ko na situated siya sa dulong part ng alternator dahil nagpapalit ako ng air filter kasabay ang inspection ng alternator windings on this side at may new spares kami nito from our AMOS inventory.

Pagkapara ng M/E nung makadikit na at secured na ang lahat, we opened the alternator covers from the end side where i replace air filters.
Dinischarge natin ang mga terminals by shorting it to the body ng Alternator.
I then disconnected the cables from the Rotating Diodes.
Maganda yung design dito dahil by screw lang yung connections ng Rotating Diodes.
Wala ka kailangan i-desolder at i-solder.
Tinest natin ang mga Rotating Diodes at we found out that some on Reverse Bias ay may mga Readings na sa Ohm Meter settings ng Multitester natin.
Ang mga bagong Rotating Diodes show O.L. (Open Loop) sa Multitester natin.
Fluke baka naman? ๐Ÿ˜‚
Yamete Senpai! ๐Ÿคซ

Itong Rotating Diodes namin madali malaman ang anodes and cathodes.
Refer on the attached pic na lang mga kouhais.

Pinalitan natin all Diodes ng new spares.
Dalawa lang sana papalitan ko pero sabi ni Chief Engineer "Better change all because all of them were already running for very long time".
Sugoi English!

We ran Main Engine No. 2,
Clutched-In to make the alternator rotate,
and tried to excite SG No. 2 kaso same trouble pa din.
One Hour Notice na din for Departure naman so we stopped muna and consult with manual and some senpais.

It is varying constantly.
According to manual need ding i-short ang S and T terminals kung saan mo ididisconnect to.

We ran Main Engine No. 2,
Clutched-In to make the alternator rotate,
and meron na agad 77V AC na Bus Voltage si SG No. 2.
Pagka-excite namin naging 420V ang Bus Voltage niya at ready na din siya to take loads.
I went to the AVR at adjusted down to 401V AC.

Nung nasa maluwag na kami tinest namin ibigay lahat ng electrical load sa SG No. 2 at there was also no significant voltage decrease.

Last Part ng uploads ay video ng pag take ng SG No. 2 ng all electrical loads.

13/01/2026

Ohayou minna-san! ๐Ÿค—

Shimatta! Bagong taon bagong alarm na naman! ๐Ÿ˜‚

Situation:

ES1-1 WIRE BREAK Alarm.

Around new year's time, tumawag si 3E at ito daw ang alarm.

Preparatory for Troubleshooting:

At upon checking more on the Electrical Diagrams, si ES1-1 ay located sa Wheel House mas kilala natin as Bridge.
Chikushou!
Hindi pwedeng gawin habang tumatakbo ang barko. ๐Ÿ˜…

Troubleshooting No.1:

Ikemasu! ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธโ€โžก๏ธ

Since darating ang Sabado kung saan kami ay maglelay-over pinaalam natin kay CE na itetest namin yung ES1-1 Button from Bridge on FWE Condition and with the Engineers present to reset the Shunt Tripped Circuit Breakers agad-agad to never cause black-out.
Dumating ang sabado at ginawa namin ito in actual at it triggered the shunt trips of all Oil Pumps in the Engine Room.
This confirms that there is no actual line break.
The Diagram Says na nasa Emergency Switch Board itong connection pero pagpunta ko dun wala naman siya sa Emergency Generator Room where the ESB can be found.

Understanding the Electrical Diagram:

Sa mga conventional Electrical Diagrams, Emergency Stops are wired only with Normally Closed Push Buttons na pag pinindot nyo ay maka cut ang daloy ng electricity and you will never be able to run the circuit again unless i-reset mo ang Emergency Stop.

For safety reasons, iba ang wiring nito.

Yamete kudasai! ๐Ÿ˜‚

It is wired with a Normally open push button, locking type, paralleled with an End-of-Line Resistor.

Upon delving more sa Electrical Diagrams, may relay for the Alarms, which is K217.2-A, at may iba pang Relay, which is K217.2, for Tripping The Shunt Releases to the CBs ng mga Oil Pumps.
Medyo maliwanag na si K217.2-A ang salarin.

Troubleshooting No. 2

Ikemasu! ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธโ€โžก๏ธ
Inadjust natin si Hysteresis Loop pataas dahil this will make the relay less sensitive to fluctuations pero kahit sinagad natin ay hindi umubra.

Chikushou! ๐Ÿ˜‚

The Relay with problem is a Telemecanique RM4UA and it is not available onboard.
May mga katabi siyang Relays for alarms na napalitan na ng bagong model which is Schneider RM22UA22MR.
We checked the Data Sheet and it is a compatible replacement pala talaga.
I then checked the Inventory sa AMOS, which is our Electronic Preventive Maintenance System, at nakita ko na meron pa kaming 2 pieces nito.
At swerte naman meron nga spare physically. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Double checked all connections at "yabai" talaga. ๐Ÿ˜ฑ
If I will replace the problematic relay ay it will trigger all Wire Break Alarms, at kung sakaling maluwag ang connection niya kay K217.2, it could possibly send a signal to trip Oil Pumps.
So, ininform uli natin si CE at 2E na this coming Saturday, sa short lay-over namin ko titirahin.

Another Saturday came.
On Finished With Engine Condition, after nila magbunkering from first tanker barge, ini-adjust ko ang settings ng spare relay at ipinalit ko sa faulty relay.
It triggered all Wire Break Alarms, and Emergency Power Source Fail Alarm.
Luckily, The Emergency Power Source Fail Alarm was only an alarm at it did not trigger anything, except for another alarm in the AMS, pero the engineers are on alert naman if anything goes differently.๐Ÿ˜Œ

Pagkatapos palitan, the alarm never came back!

07/01/2026

Min'na Ohayou!

Situation:

Troubleshooting done:
Ikemasu!
Dahil prangko sila ng after lunch, mag-isa muna nating tinira yung trabaho.
Inireset ko muna ang Emergency Stop Button.
Operated it at tumitigil nga sa 2nd Speed.
Pinuntahan natin ang Panel at dahil ang panel dito has a main Power Switch na kailangang i-off para mabuksan ang panel ay ini-off muna natin ang Power Switch.
Pagkabukas ng panel, I switched ON the Power Switch.
Upon checking the Electrical Wiring Diagram, I found out K2 is the Contactor for 2nd Speed.
After maibalik, testing uli heave and slack all speeds working na.
Turn Off uli tayo ng Power Switch para masara ang Panel niya then pagka Turn On, Final Testing and working pa din siya.
So ayun ininform na natin si Bosun.

Kimochi di ba?
