The GAFUR PLAZA is a fusion of contemporary form and traditional materials, serving as a peaceful center of trade, finance, and community life.The concept centers on creating an "oasis" within the dense, vibrant chaos of a traditional Bangladeshi bazaar. The building acts as both a landmark and a connection point, blending modern, geometric forms with traditional materials like brick to create a new, high-quality public space that is culturally grounded yet forward-looking.

Competition Entry for Re-envisioning Andarkilla Shahi Jame Mosque, Chattogram, Bangladesh
Organized by Institute of Architects Bangladesh & Islamic Foundation

The Anderkilla Shahi Jame Mosque, built to commemorate a glorious victory, is a symbol of history, faith, and architectural excellence. It once stood in full prominence, commanding the space around it. However, over time, various supporting functions—meant to enhance the site—have instead obscured the mosque’s presence, making it feel tucked away rather than celebrated.

Today, experiencing the mosque in its true essence requires digging through layers of additions. Its grandeur is still there, but it is hidden, waiting to be rediscovered.
Our Design concept is simple yet profound: we “Drop” all supporting functions underground, giving the mosque back its rightful place. This is not just about architecture—it’s about restoring dignity to a historical monument and letting it Breathe Again! Which will include improving public access, enhancing visual connections, and creating an open plaza for Jummah, Janajah, and Eid prayers.
