A career built on people, relationships and plenty of machinery 💫
Tomorrow, we say farewell to Austin “Austy” Davis as he finishes up with SWT and officially begins his next chapter after an incredible 42 years in the agricultural machinery industry.
Austy’s journey began back in 1984 at Ranger Geale, where he started as a spare parts assistant. From there, he moved into sales, then branch management, gaining the experience that would eventually lead him to take a much bigger step.
In August 1998, Austy and two colleagues started South West Tractors - a business he helped build as both a Dealer Principle and salesperson.
When South West Tractors eventually became part of the AEH group, Austy stayed on the tools of the trade he knew best - sales.
For Austy, though, the story of his career has never really been about the machinery.
It’s been about the people.
The customers who became friends. The businesses he watched grow. The families he worked with across generations.
“I’ve enjoyed building those long-term relationships with customers, watching their journey and being a part of it.”
But perhaps the best indication of just how much the industry has meant to Austy is what he’s chosen to take into retirement with him.
He recently purchased a second-hand New Holland T5030 (one he originally sold himself) along with a slasher from SWT 🤝
So while he might be stepping away from the dealership, we have a feeling he won’t be getting too far away from machinery.
There’ll be plenty of gardening, helping people out with their gardens, some travelling and, eventually, plenty of time spent exploring with the caravan.
And after everything he’s learnt over four decades, Austy has some simple advice for those coming through the industry:
“Listen to people when they’re talking and take it in. Respect what they want to do and understand what they’re going through.”
Wise words from someone who’s spent a career doing exactly that.

Thank you for the years of hard work, the knowledge shared, the customers looked after, the friendships built and the countless memories along the way.
42 years is one hell of a career — and one that has left a lasting mark on a lot of people.
